So I've recently discovered that I do, in fact, enjoy a good beer. Good beer for me thus far does not include anything that has a hoppy taste to it.

But, I would like more recommendations. So far I've tried and enjoyed:

Youngs Double Chocolate Stout - Seriously good stuff... but hard to find.
Yuengling Traditional Lager - Typically what I buy to keep in the fridge because it's cheap
Hudepohl Amber Lager - Cincinnati born... so of course I dig it.
Newcastle Brown Ale Amber Boch
Brooklyn Chocolate Stout
Left Hand Milk Stout Nitro
Old Speckled Hen Ale
Boddington's Pub Ale
Belhaven Scottish Ale - LOVE this
Smithwicks

So, recommendations? What's your beer of choice? Are you drinking a beer right now?

Generally I don't drink beer at all. I do like Desperadoes though :p I think they've got tequila in them or something?

I used to be really into drinking beers, namely heavier ones like the stuff listed above. Blech, I don't miss it that much, but here are a few you would probably like:

Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout
Rogue Chocolate Stout
Boddington's Pub Ale
Sierra Nevada Stout
Chimay Blue or Red

Chimay and Rogue specifically are a little "hoppier" than what is on your list, but not so hoppy, they are a good introduction to hops, and additionally, Chimay is a good intro do Belgian beer.

EDIT: I see you have Boddington's already. :p

I used to only drink Strohs

It was a local thing

I like MGD..... Changed to MGD light and then they changed that and I did not like it

Next I went to Lite ICE but they discontinued it .. Damn them

So back to MGD

Not much for testing others. I get used to one and stick with it

I never used to drink beer, but lately it's grown on me a bit. I don't really know much about types/brands yet though, so I ask for recommendations a lot. One I remember liking recently was called a Harvest Moon Beltian White. (I'm like 90% sure that's the name... I'm shit at remembering things though).

American beer I like -

Killians Irish Red - My cheapie go to beer
Ranger IPA - Tried this while working in Atlanta. Very good.
Arrogant Bastard Ale - Despite the crass name, it's damn good. Expensive, though.
Dead Guy Ale - Made by the same guys as Arrogant Bastard.
Moose Drool (a local from the state of Washington, very popular there. Cannot find it anywhere else no matter how hard I try)
Anything by Great Lakes Breweries, notably the Dortmunder Gold. Somewhat expensive, but local, so awesome on occasion.
Delerium Nocturnem - Means "crazy nights" in Latin and I may be misspelling it. A HEAVY wheat beer with tons of sediment in the bottom and a hell of a thick head, and it takes about one bottle to do the job. However, extremely hard to find and very expensive.

Import beers I like -

ANYTHING from the Badger Brewery near Pool, England. I especially liked the Blandford Fly. However, they do not export to the US, so if you live here, good luck getting it.
St Pauli Girl - Yes, it's extremely common to find it in America. Still, I like it.
Heineken - This is my go to Import, as it's easy to find, fairly cheap, and tastes decent if you like a skunky beer.
Newcastle Brown - Found this while I was in the UK a few months ago. Awesome stuff, easy to find over there, not so easy to find here and somewhat expensive.
Podolsokski - A Russian beer that was a local brew, there's no chance to find it anywhere other than the very small area in Russia where I was when I found it. However, friends of mine over there send me some now and then.

While it is not a beer, and it can kill you if you don't know what you are doing when you drink it, I do recommend trying the Habu-Sake if you are in Okinawa. It's rice liquor mixed with the venom of the Habu snake. Just be careful.

You need to come to the Midwest then... We have a bar with Moose drool on tap here in Kansas... you can find it in ND and SD too... LOVE that stuff...

You should find some Boulevard Wheat... awesome beer from Kansas City... They have given a great list so far. I have tried many of them.

I am in the midwest,. rback. My house is situated a full 640 feet past the Ohio River in Ohio, so I am in the midwest. I am not, however, anywhere near Kansas. Been thinking of moving today anyways, thanks to a turn of events in the past couple days that is just freakin awesome.

Maybe I'll move to Kansas. I'm moving basically as fast as I can figure out where to.

Haha! Oh man, I haven't had Habu-Saki in years. When I was TDY to Okinawa in 2004, I brought a bottle back, that still had the Habu in it. I was scared shitless when I was there because a couple of locals said the Habu like to hide in the grass, well, my billeting room was on the far end of the building, and nearly surrounded by grass. I used to run (high stepping) across the grass EVERY morning for three weeks, I was sure they were going to get me one of those mornings.

On another note, Habu-Saki tastes fucking gross.

Hmm... going out on a limb here, but Semper Fi, Darrell.

rback... I don't generally answer that question directly to people I don't know well. My career path is fairly standard for those who had a successful military career and wanted to continue working for the Federal Government making a bad guy's day worse.

Of course, I'm going to recommend my favourite (when I can find a pub with the thing in) as you've listed a couple.

Murphy's Irish Stout.
