What was your favorite candy / toy to buy at the corner store as a kid ?

When you were just a kid and you got that allowance or special money, what did you go spend it on at the corner store ?

Was it candy or a special type of toy ?

When I was young the big thing was spaghetti licorice and baseball cards..

Strawberry candy was big as well and coke to drink..

As silly as that may sound they are no longer allowed to put red dye on the end of those in Canada to make them look like real cigarettes which it looks like those don't have either..

We used to get the Popeye versions..

I got my son to eat spinach because of popeye
but dont let him see you with some non popeye brand of spinach
I keep an empty can of popeye spinach in the cabinet just in case
cause I buy the walmart brand lol

also got him to eat asparagus cause I called them little trees
he thought he is eating miniature trees


I also loved to get grape big league chew gum
and the super large pixie sticks

I used to ride my faithful BMX down to the shop via a few stunts to impress the girls(Lucy used to get all hot and sweaty if i pulled of a few high bunny hops...she gave me some serious...o back on track)...grab a bottle of Cherry-aid and a couple of ounces of sherbet pips.....i for sure lived the high life.

When I was a little kid my great grandfather would give us a quarter apiece. The old country store had penny candy and some 2 for a penny candy. You could get a lot of candy for a quarter. I loved "Sixlets" & "redhot jawbreakers".

I loved jawbreakers! Forgot about them.

A friend's father opened a corner store YEARS ago, it was one of the oldest businesses in her community. She ran it after his health deteriorated...but it was awesome, they had soooo much penny candy. She only closed it about 5 years ago and there were articles in the local paper about it, generations tellng stories about getting candy at this store...it was cute.
