My momma raised me right, I am to hold doors for anyone that is behind me when walking past a door (within reason) if I meet someone at the door, i hold the door and encourage them to come through, I address all women of older age as m'am and I older gentlemen as sir.

At times people at work give me shit for this since I am pretty much an asshole to them but i tell them there is a certain difference; I know them and am comfortable with them, joking around and what not, with strangers there is a level of respect that i was taught to have and often it just comes out naturally.

note: im an asshole but a friendly asshole to my cooworkers LOL

I fully intend to raise my girls to be respectable young women! Now if I could just get Staci to stop from encouraging them from burping, or farting they should be set :ninja

Wow. I just read some of this and SMH...I am a habitual door opener for people going and coming from buildings.... it's a courtesy thing not sexist.... I open doors for LOTS of elderly people as they try and get in and out of buildings and such...

I have got stuck holding the door for extended periods but I will not let the door go on a woman or a child. I may look at a man and nod as if to say your turn.

I've always believed in holding a door open.. But it's been getting worse and worse as people of all ages make a dash for the door being held and to be quite honest while I don't mind doing it for women, children, the elderly and handicapped I do have a problem with teenagers and able men who believe I am a doorman.. I do after all have to take care of my own son and as an example this Christmas time it was horrible..

I love that my hubby opens the door for me and I will keep encouraging him to do so. It's old fashioned and I like it. He also does so for others, I don't know if it's more a European thing, though. He also pulls the chair out for me, etc. I like it. Unlike Thorney I do not give him bjs for it though. (Hmmm, wait a minute, I don't mean to imply Thorney give bjs to Joe.....) :24:
