Why do people who refuse to drive over the speed limit drive on the left side of the road? (U.S here people)

Why do people who are in a hurry try to pass people out in the right lane only to have to swerve back into the left lane running the chance of causing an accident?

Why do people try to pass you out in the right lane when there is no chance of them passing you with slower traffic in front of them (in the left lane) but still try to do it anyway?

If the speed limit is 65, I'm doing 75. If a car wants to pass me and I'm in the left lane doing 75, I pull over to the right lane to let him pass. Am I missing something here?

Perhaps this is different in the States. I was under the impression that the speed limit was the maximum speed you're supposed to drive at?


I don't see how it's someone else's problem if you want to break the law but I assume you've got some weird rule over there about doing an extra 10mph if you really have to.

Come over and diver the beltway around D.C.

Do 10 MPH over the speed limit and you make end up killing yourself or someone else for driving too slow. Heck, the couple times I was down around Atlanta, it seemed that area was even worse than DC.

I'm not talking about "city" driving though, I'm talking about being on the interstate.

Notice how I mentioned some people want to PASS me even if I'm doing 10 MPH over the speed limit and I'll pull over to the left lane? That is what you call "courtesy".

I hate when people linger in the left lane. Its a passing lane and should be used as such. My co-worker never gets out of the left lane when I let him drive. Makes no sense.
