Is my family the rule or the exception?

I was the first grandchild and I am not sure what the family wanted me to call my grandmother when I was learning to talk but all that came out was, "Buddy". For the rest of her life everyone in the family called her Buddy.

My mother nicknamed my great-grandmother, "Doer". Never did a name more fit a person because she was definitely a doer. Always working on something. I rarely saw her idle.

My great-grandfathers were all called "Ya-ya". I believe because of an aunt.

Well, since my grandpa's name was Brown, grandma's was Doshia, and great uncle's was Deck...there was hardly room for nicknames, these crazy hillbillies had weird enough names :24:

Though my nickname is Cartoon, and my aunt's is "Camu" (my second cousin couldn't say grandma, so it stuck)

this oughtta be good :p

I think im the only one in the family that has had a slew of nicknames lol
Lets see:

- My dad and my brother called and still call me "enano" which is Spanish for midget lol i was a tiny little dude so the name fit.
- My dad called my mom "La Leona" since she was very protective of us like a lioness is with her cubs
- My brother calls me "cabezon" which means big head, other variances are: maceton which is Spanish for a big plant pot
- My sister calls me "wonder", when i was young, i used to love watching the wonderful world of Disney - thus i became "wonder"
- My mom's side of the family called and still calls me "Tetey" Ive no idea where this came from but they still call me that often :p
- I have always called my sister "wawa". i dont really know why, it is just what i started calling her when i was little and well... it stuck
- Addison, our youngest daughter was really tiny when she was born, then she blew up like a little tub o' butter so i started calling her "Tubberz"
- Lauren our oldest has two nicknames: Every one calls her "Lala" a name which i picked the day she was born :D and I also call her big head since well... she is my daughter

Nick names are almost a tradition in most mexican families... its not as a sense of riduling someone, but they are used more as a sign of affection... ive had to explain this to many people before lol but to my family giving a nickname to someone we care about is a natural thing :p

Well I am a junior. Some of my family members still call me Freddy instead of Fred although my dad has been dead almost 45 years.

My brother and I were the first grandchildren on both sides. My mums parents taught us to call them Oma and Opa, its Dutch for grandma and grandpa. So nothing strange there.

My dads parents were quite young when my brother and I were born and werent quite ready to be called grandma or pa etc. My grandpa was called Mac by everyone and we picked that up. My grandmas name was Sonia but when my brother was little he couldn't pronounce it and it turned into Sasa. Which is how it stayed forever :)

My first name is Jacqueline, so I usually go by Jacqi or Jacq-O. Husband's nickname for me is HunnyBunny. I call him Jellybean because I used to ask him "what do you mean, Jellybean?" and it just stuck.

Our dog's name is Chai-T, but we will call her Choggy (Chai + Doggy) or The Chogs, or Choggles - she'll answer to all of them.

My parents didn't really do the nickname thing, so I'll have to ask around and see if any of us had funny names!!

I have millions of animal nicknames lol, I'm bad about that. Dexter, my pom is called Dos Dequis, Dequis for short, Floonian (no idea), and boo boo shoes (again, no clue).

My bf calls me babu and I call him bubu; it's relatively sparklebarf.

Our daughter was called "Stepho-Bebo" or "Be-bo" or Pee-mite when she was young.
I have a nephew who called me, "Bubba" for several months.
I called my son "Big'un" or "Big Guy" or "Brother"
I call my wife a variety of names like Honey, Darling, Sweetheart never stuck on one. She does however pick up on it if I answer her with "Yes,Dear".

My dad called my dink. Didn't particularly care for it. I call Joe Josafa some time and honeybun. Sometimes I called Mom Moo moo because she wore them. As for my animals I'm smaltzy so they have lots of sickening names you wouldn't want to hear ;)

Ever notice in those old videos like that one they always hired some soul-less voice for the narration. Those voices that could put an insomniac into a slumber.

My nephew was the first grandchild and he called my mother gran, which is pretty normal but then came out with pops for my father. Since then the whole family calls him it. He's listed in my phone as it I don't think I've called him dad since that stuck.

My younger brother couldn't pronounce my eldest sisters name, Sally-Louise, so he used to just say weez, which also stuck. And then my father turned it into weezle, which sadly for her, also stuck, hahah.

And then I can't miss out my uncle Phillip, or as he's known, uncle maddog. I could write you all a book about that man but yes, let's just say the name suits him and we'll leave it at that! I should add though that it's not a cute/funny name the family came up with no. It is what the whole town/village knows him as... *sigh*

At least they did not Nickname you "Skidmark" LOL!:24:

Hahaha

I get called Lor by my ma, everyone else calls me Laurie (unless you're my step-gran who forgets what child belongs to who so I usually get a range of names before she gets the right one)

I get called Lol by a couple of my mates, not really sure why

I get called Kermit by one of my mates, cos I said I sounded like Kermit the frog when I lost my voice a few months ago.

my mother used to call me something,..but that died with her, unless i run into a certain ex living in west palm which my mother was "kind" enough to inform her of..

when i was born my youngest sister, who is roughly a year older than i, could not say brother so she called me "bubba" for years then she changed it to "moose" after middle school...not sure why.

i've had lots of "pet names" given to me by girlfriends, but the one i heard the most was.....

...."God" :ninja
