you and the other worker should tell her to take it back that you can not afford it

otherwise she can accept $5 each from the two of you or return it.

if it is not returnable then fuck the bitch. well not literally I guess :D

she is on her own

If you don't put your foot down and deal with it this time the same thing will repeat itself in some form in the future.

It absolutely sucks to have to be forced to deal with this but the flip side is you will feel a whole lot worse getting used.

Just do it

Even if the other worker won't

The bitch is a controlling type and there is only way to deal with em unless you want future similar misery

This time I won't say it is my opinion. It is my guarantee based on life experience and I know I am right

Oh my. That is not fair to you at all. I agree with the masses and say tell the lady to return it! Nobody wants a Santa statue anyway.

I am in a similar situation actually. I bought personalized pens for my students last year and the other sixth grade teachers loved the idea and wanted to get them with me this year. I was told to put in the order and to let them know how much they owe me. Only issue? I don't have all that money up front! It is going to be over 300 dollars. I guess i will end up charging it.

I hate the idea of giving for no reason. I agree gift giving should be a personal thing.

My boyfriend's company holiday party is this weekend, pretty big shin-dig...but I like the idea that because there's so many employees that come to the party, they ask for a new toy to be donated as "admission" that they give to toys for tots or something or other. I think we both agree that $10 is much better spent to give a toy to a kid who may not have anything than to give something to a coworker you are only friends with in work terms who may be ungrateful for it anyway.

I know it's hard (I struggle with it, too), but definitely agree with everyone else about standing up for yourself. She acted rude and inconsiderate and doesn't deserve much in the way of respect with regard to the situation. Good luck. :)

I personally think gift giving should be a personal thing for personal friends and family, not some fake forced event done between coworkers who hate each other. So tacky and wrong.

Quoted for the truth.

I'm amused on the parenting forum I go on the people who are buying gifts for 100+ people and moaning about the cost. Most of them aren't even their family/friends but co-workers they barely speak to; their best friend's ex-boyfriend who they haven't had any contact with since 1997; the binmen who they have never spoken to; and bus driver they see once a week but the only conversation between them is "return ticket to town. Thanks".

Jeez Louise do they all need gifts? NO. Just give the people you barely know/no longer have much contact with a Christmas card and be done with it.

:homo:

I have three Christmas gifts that I buy each year. My mom, my dad and my sister. All my other relatives and friends get a card and that's it. This year I've expanded to four gifts, though. Gotta include my future brother-in-law. :D
