we got a new dog a few weeks back. good dog, 9 months old, half husky half german shephard mix. my main issue right now is he is tearing up my back yard!!!! he is digging all these holes and driving me nuts.

to all you dog lovers....any suggestions as to how to get him to stop digging so much and so bad?

maybe more bonding time with him? take him for some walks and see if there is a park where other dogs congregate and maybe he can make new friends

He's bored., (and he's a pup still) Does he have plenty to keep him occupied through the day? Is he left at home by himself for long periods?

while we are at work during the week he is kept in his kennel. he had plenty of toys to chew, balls to chase etc. mr fuzz spends at least 45 minutes a night outside playing with the dog. he just digs LOL.

theres stuff you can plant that'll keep dogs at bay. They use it to keep dogs from digging in gardens....

Does he dig when you ARE at home or when your not there, or both?
Is he tethered in his kennel? (sorry, you're gonna get heaps of questions...but I will be able to help):)

im good with all the questions :)

he does both, even when we have the back door open for him to come in and out. while in his kennel he is not tethered. he has enough room to move around. we leave a few toys for him in the kennel to play with while we are gone

How does he stay in his kennel if he isnt tethered? Do you know if he barks or whines when you arent there? Have the neighbours said anything?
Does he get over excited when you get home..ie..jumping on you and piddling everywhere? Or barking incessantly when he sees you?

(I warned ya);)

he might be testing out his teeth, I would buy some toys that make him chew (more than just bones)better yet, teach the dog to fetch and that might keep him occupied and plus the kids can throw the ball and learn to play with him too.....
do we have a picture of him?

ok....maybe i need to say crate not kennel.....i was just informed LOL. he barks and whines right after we leave, but not sure for how long. he is not barking or whining when we come home. when i let him out of crate to go outside he seems really happy and excited to see us, but no piddling or massive jumping on us. he hardly barks as well.

and dana thanks for the link

Text book this is. Same answers I always get from all my doggy clients. You can do all the things in the link, but you need to get to the cause. He's bored, like I said.
The ideal answer is another dog, but thats often not feasible.
If he is an a crate all day long, then only getting 45 mins of ball throwing, he is still not getting nearly enough stimulation and excercise, especially for a pup. Is your yard fenced, does he need to be in the crate? Could you set up a dog run for him?
You could also leave the radio or TV on so he thinks someone is home?
