I wonder if it's also illegal to feed a live rat to a snake.

I went to a pet shop once and seen a huge Blah constricting a rabbit once. They didn't block off the view at feeding time like they should have. I was there with an ex girlfriends 4 year old daughter. That did not go over well.

Why should they block it off from viewing?
Do they cover the tanks before feeding the Oscars live goldfish?

I had a couple of Oscars

They would eat and eat and eat and then puke em out if you let em. They were feeding machines.

They would even jump out of the water to get a goldfish.

You make a point about whether it had been a rat.

If this was a kitten in the wild what is the difference in the end?

It was a pet and somebody was just getting their jollies that is another matter. I did not watch the video if there was one so I don't know the context.

I am not fond of cats and still would not do it to one.

Just asking

I'm just curious why it's illegal to feed a cat to a snake and not a rat...

Rats are not as accepted as a pet compared to a cat

But I think you knew that :D

Oh I understand that more people have cats as pets than rats, but make no mistake about it, there are quite a few people who have rats as pets. Hell, they can be trained and are quite smart.

My question is, why is it illegal to feed a kitten to a snake when it isn't illegal to feed a rat to the snake?
Is the only difference the likability of the pet in question?

I even thought a chick being fed by a human was sickening, but this far sickening by comparison. I mean I don't know why people would want to keep a python as a pet. I know it is illegal already to keep pythons as pets, let alone being cruel to cats and dogs and other animals. I just hope that person is put in prison for a long time

Because the cat in the US and in other countries is considered a domesticated pet. People can tend to "love" cats.

We can go back to the Dana question as to why is a human life "worth" more than a lady bugs life.

The other day there was a bad wreck and someone died on the side of the road. They covered the body up. Why? Dead person on the side of the road is no different that a dead groundhog with it's legs up, that is unless you happen to of loved the person who is lying dead on the road.

I don't know the legality of it but isn't part of the problem the 'unnecessary cruelty' part?

Letting a python constrict and then swallow a live kitten isn't exactly humane. And to be fair, I wouldn't be that crazy about them doing it to rats either. I understand people like snakes as pets for some reason, and snakes like live food, but that doesn't make it okay to purposefully feed a defenseless kitten right into the jaws of another animal.

Well we may not call it "humane" but unfortunately pythons deserve a right to live as much as the kitten. I am appalled that a kitten was used to feed the python, which [the python] should be left in its own environment not trapped in a room used as a pet
