"Some parents who choose not to vaccinate their children are instead choosing to purposefully infect them with chickenpox..."

"You can find pages on Facebook dedicated to getting your child infected with chickenpox, usually in the form of a gathering or party in your area. But a similar page found by an NBC affiliate in Nashville, Tenn. also offered the virus on lollipops sent through the mail.
For $50 via PayPal, Wendy Werkit had a "fresh batch of pox" on suckers and Q-tips. WSMV-TV asked that mother about her offer.
"They were sucked on by my kids," Werkit explained. "They can't get (chicken pox) the normal way anymore, of just catching them naturally and getting immunity for life.""

i was going to purposely expose Jace to chicken pox by being around someone who had it so he would get it and be done with it then i learned that the CP vaccine is mandatory and he already got both rounds, and i didnt know he did. i was not happy. i didnt want him to have the vaccine

I'm just taken aback by the thought of buying a virus online and giving it to your child in that manner. I mean can you imagine if something went wrong and a child died from that activity? The internet is shady!

Man, I tried EVERYTHING to get the chickenpox. When my younger brother had them I drank after him, shared utensils, EVERYTHING. Either I never got them or I had had some super mild case at one point and never even knew it. *shrugs*

how can they vaccinate a child without parental notification? for all you know they could of been shot up with heroin (ok worst case scenerio but you get it...). I would make a scene and tear the school board a new asshole.

My daughter doesn't have the chicken pox vaccine. To be honest, I didn't even know it existed until I went on mumsnet and they were discussing it (it's not that common to be given it in the UK).

I know chicken pox can be fatal or can lead to life-long problems but it's rare. I'd rather chance that if she get's it, she will be fine. That said, I'm not going out my way to expose her to any children with chicken pox and would never even consider taking her to a chicken pox party or paying for it.

I wouldn't be bothered if my kids did catch chicken pox - me and my sisters all had it when we were young and it was just uncomfortable, far better than possibly getting the adult version.

But I would not buy a lollipop online to hopefully give my child the virus! What if that kid had some other issues you didn't know about? I know kids catch stuff all the time but that seems like it's taking it a bit far.

the school had nothing to do with it. it was his pediatrician and done sometime during his vaxing period  he hasnt had any vaxes in a few years so i dont know when he got it

some people are born with a natural immunity to it, or yes you could have had a very mild case of it. either way, id be careful as an adult since its more dangerous for adults to get it than children. and you might be more prone to shingles too.

That's the thing, I just sense a creeping psychosis from someone buying something to infect their child with...it's like wha???
I didn't get the vaccine, I think I'm a bit old, if I recall, it came around after I got chickenpox anyway. I don't know much about the vaccine itself, aside from the assumption it's intended to make chickenpox one less thing to worry about...I always assume the only people who are against vaccines are germ theory denialists but that's likely not true.
