again and again and again, "REALLY!?!?" My mother is in her 70's. She and several women around her age volunteer at a thrift store which sells donated items to support an animal shelter. My mom mentioned the truck we had for sell. One of the women said she might like to see it on Saturday. Well through a calamity of miscommunications that did not happen. She decided she would like to see it Sunday but never scheduled to meet me to see it. I get a call all in a panic from her wanting to see it and she was put out because I was not home waiting on her call. I meet her and her son they look at it and say they will call me later and let me know if they want it or not. She calls and has decided she wants it. Fine. She cannot get it Monday because she will be out of town. She could do it 5-ish on Tuesday. I bowl so I said that will not work for me. She said Wednesday will not work for her because she has a hair appointment. Okay, we settle on Thursday evening. Yesterday, my mother calls and leaves a message on my cell phone voicemail that the woman really wants the truck today (Wednesday) if I will come meet her at a place of her choosing. Should not be this difficult to arrange things with a retired person. I am done with the sale. THANK God!

I don't get what this has to do with her changing her mind. Sounds more like problems with schedules not colliding.

Interesting. Between her and my mother I felt like I had my string pulled for about 5 days. Saturday..no Sunday. Not sure...ok. Thursday...no Wednesday. Truthfully I think the woman just likes seeing people jump to suit her. I hope she enjoys the truck and loses my phone number.

You're prepared to miss out on selling your truck because you bowl on a certain evening? How exactly does that work? You either want to sell it and put in the effort, or you don't.

Sorry, dude. I just don't get it.

No offense, Grin, but why should Fred care what you think about his priorities, anyway??? I put everything on hold for my DanceFit class on Tuesday nights. It's 1 hour every 2 weeks that I actually get to go and do my FAVORITE kind of exercise. I do what I have to to make sure I can make it. There are 167 other hours in the week to choose from.

Surely ... in the bigger scheme of things ... when the sale of a vehicle could easily amount to a month's salary or more ... the reasonable thing to do is to put a single weekly activity aside in favour of considerable financial gain? Or am I just being stupid?

A standing arrangement with friends would take precedence over arranging to sell a truck if it were me, since the truck sale could easily happen on another night, even if it did take a bit of messing about for Fred.

It's not like it was a flat choice between 'cancel your night out or lose the chance to sell your truck'.

Someone is just trying to stir shit for no reason.
Obviously, Fred handled the situation and the way it was done matters not to anyone else. Things tend to not work out exactly as they are wanted to....welcome to life.

If there is one thing I have learned in all my years best laid plans rarely work out as planned.

That is very true, Fred. I guess I took exception to your statement which read 'It should not be this difficult to arrange things with a retired person.' Retired people have lives and make plans, also.

Most people do their best to stand by the commitments that they've made. Fred seems like one of those people.

You still seem to miss the point I was trying to make.....

Never mind. It really isn't important.
