Poll to follow....

Yes. Another poll. They rock! Get over yourself if you take issue. :D

I'm slowly trying to rid myself of gas (propane) appliances in my home in order to save money. The cost of gas (propane) is skyrocketing.

Should I consider switching out my gas (propane) stove for an electric one? Right now, just to sit there with the pilot lights burning, it costs around $50+ per year according to the propane company. I asked. :)

So..... what do you think?

I have not used any new electric stoves, but all the old ones I have ever used in apartments have been garbage. I wonder if they've improved them to heat more evenly and not scorch?

I'm glad I have an electric stove but there are times I wish it was gas. Confusing I know but with gas the heat is so much easier to control. To me it's a safety issue. I don't like the idea of being blowed up accidentally. I know it's a silly fear but being burned at the stake in a previous life it's a valid one. One real downside to electric appliances especially living in the country is when the power is out we can't cook. With our storm in the fall and winter that happens quite a bit.

If it's money issue and you're hard up, maybe. Electricity isn't really cheaper where I live and personally I would rather cook with gas every time over electricity, I much prefer having a real flame and instant heat.

We have propane furnace, water heaters and stove top. The oven is electric. When there is a power outage, we have hot water and the stove top to cook on. We also have a 5,000 watt generator that will power the propane furnace and well pump, so it's all good for us. If we were all electric, we would have to buy a much larger generator - like 24,000 watts to heat and cook.

You could upgrade your stove to an electronic ignition that does not have a standing pilot.

What type of water heaters and furnace do you have? Most of our propane is consumed by the furnace. The water heaters and cook top use very little propane.

I am not a fan of gas stoves, so I would go electric in a heartbeat. I have gas heat and I *hate* it.

I have a gas stove but would switch it for an electric. I just think the electric ones are nicer and I like the idea of not having to use propane.

The plus of having a gas stove though, is that you can easily and quickly control the heat.
