$5.00 a gallon for gas?!!!!! Wow! I just paid $3.47 a gallon this morning. Sheesh! You're government is rough on you all.

It's actually more than that. I'm thinking Francis just estimated it cuz I just filled up this evening. He's my numbers... $1.25 per litre = 4.55 L x $1.25 = 5.69 per Imperial gal. The US gal is 20% smaller in volume than ours so that would equate to $4.55 cdn per US gal. Factor in the exchange rate and one would probably have to add at least 5% if not 7% which I haven't done here. ( merchants like to charge a bit extra for their inconvenience ) That said I was in Francis neck of the woods late this afternoon and the prices there were 8 cents a L more making the cost of his gas about $6.05 cdn per gal. We have all the taxes to thanks for that.

I remember hopping into the vehicle on a Friday night and not returning until late Sunday evening. Just drive where you ended up at and no worries about the cost of gas.... or food... or lodging..... *sigh*

..... and just last week.... I paid $200 for a plate for my new 'used' travel trailer! Sure... it's for the life of my trailer as long as it's mine..... but da amn..... that was a hard chunk of change to let go of. :(

They offer that kind of money because there is a bat shit crazy amount of idiots out there that will except it. If you are a company that is into making money that that is what you do. Make money. Until EVERYONE stands up to this and put a hult on the workforce it will just get lower and lower and lower.

Damn. I actually somewhat agree with this. I wouldn't go so far as calling people who are working for that kind of wage as opposed to starving "idiots" - although I can't disagree completely either.

Here in the U.S., the working class has been largely convinced that unions and universal health care is evil, socialist and unAmerican. They vote for asshat politicians that are owned by Wall Street and listen to right wing talk radio propaganda designed and funded by the same.

Redliner is right. Until we pull our collective heads from our collective asses and stop voting against outr own best interests, nothing will change.

Perhaps times have changed, but I know in the late 90's I kind of knew of some people who would run into Canada from the U.S and sell "higher priced market specific" to people because if it cost $1,000 retail in the US, you could charge $1,200 and the Canadians were still getting a great deal because "imported" into Canada, the same product would go for for about $1,400. It was a pretty good gig as long as you didn't freak out at the border:24:

When I was long hauling ( over 12 years ago ) and I had my arse parked in a restaurant in the USA with some time to kill I used to browse through the help wanted ads just for shits and giggles. I was always amazed at the poor wages that were offered all over your country in comparison to ours. One thing that struck me was other than the Chicago, Gary, Ind and Detroit area the further south a person went the lower the wages were.

**** Now I know why people are pissed and are hanging out in New York. ****
Cost of living is different in the US, though. When I was working in Kentucky the most I ever made was $6.75/hour and I started out at $4.50/hour (which was minimum wage there at the time). I had a car, was sending money home for a student loan payment and had living expenses. At no time did I ever feel like I was just scraping by. I've never worked for that little in Canada, though and there is no way I would have ever been able to support myself on that kind of money here.
