What if someone died?

There have been a few people that I knew only through the internet that have died.. I kinda equate it with losing a friend that had moved really far away.. *shrugs*

I ended up on a sky-diving forum once, I can't remember why but hey, it's the internet.
It really unnerved me how they had a section entirely devoted to fatal accident announcements. And it was updated on a regular basis - sometimes just with reports about accidents in the news but more often about people from the forum. This wasn't a local team or anything, it was a huge international forum, so many of these people had never met. It was chilling to see threads had been posted almost daily to let people know someone they knew online hadn't made it.

I actually have experienced this. It was not someone that I was REAL close to, but it was someone I had gotten to know. It was on a tractor forum and he was a very active poster. He was especially knowledgeable in hydraulics. It was quite shocking when it was posted of his passing. He was a really neat guy.
i've had it a few times and each time has been sad. when i do try to get to 'know' someone online it usually becomes enough of a relationship that i have at least talked to them on the phone.
the last person who died in my online life was a guy named Norm. We played evony together for months, and talked all the time then two days past without anything so i called his home only to be informed by his daughter he had died of a heart attack. infact most ppl online have died from complications of the heart or strokes...i put it down to sitting for long periods at a computer. its not healthy.
but yes, i do cry and i do morn the loss of that person when they are no longer part of what i see day to day on a forum or chat or etc... i don't morn as long as i think i would someone i have met, but there is a sadness of loss.
there is only one person right now who if i found out he was dead that i would truly fall apart from, because although we have never met, we have certainly spent many nights and days over the last 8-10 years posting, emailing and phoning each other. we do go months without contact but we always at some point touch base to do a catch up. it actually scares me off a bit to be honest because it a very powerless feeling knowing that there is a possibility that you never get and answer as to why they just disappeared. At least in RL you can go to that persons house to check on them and actually hug them to make sure they are ok when you can't get intouch...so its certainly different to care about people online. you have to be guarded.
a few of us knew Bea... not sure if she joined here...but she was certainly one of the deaths that most hit me. She died of cancer and was a lovely woman and artist. It took me about a month to let go and stop visiting her facebook, as it had been part of a weekly thing to say hi and that i was thinking of her.
so yes...its hard just a different level of grieving depending on the amount of contact and what sort of schedule you had with that person.

No, there WAS drama w/ Gina as well. You don't remember Juggler getting irate b/c we had a rep party (your suggestion, I believe) in her honor???
Exactly... I went to pay my respects "elsewhere" because I talked to her off here and i was pretty much tarred and feathered...
