Not sure what kind of reception this thread will get but it is something I am proud of. I shot my first deer with a bow last night at seven o clock after sitting in a ground blind for four hours. What a rush. Anyways if there are any other hunters out there I will discuss more.

People still hunt with bows?

Yes they do. It is actually pretty neat to use one. Mind you it is not the conventional bow you think of. It is a compond bow. That is much more accurate (if sighted properly).

Four hours?

If nothing else, I have nowhere near enough patience for that.

Well it took most likely twelve hours all together. There is it's boring parts. Afew naps here and there. Then watching some deer and waiting for them to get close enough.

Is it an instant kill? How can you be sure the deer wont suffer, especially using a bow?
What do you do with it after, eat it?
Are they pests over there?
I dont hunt obviously.

It does not even know what happens. It ran maybe 20 yards in the middle of the field and stopped and was gone before it hit the ground. Yeah you let it hang after you clean it all up. Then in acouple days I will take it to the butcher and have a full freezer for the winter. Pests ? Not sure what that means.

I've got a Parker Ultralight 31. GREAT bow.

Last couple of years between work haven't had time to get out back, but my tree stand is still about 300 yards off the back porch that I can walk to. Honestly, the deer in NC are way overpopulated and most are small compared to Pa and Ohio. Added the fact that my son likes to see them out back by his soccer goal LOL

Figure about a 10-20 yard shot? Tree stand or blind? Are you the regular PSE or Mathews kind of guy? LOL

How about a picture?

Deer meat is yummo, I gotta admit.

I mean, are they feral...pests...over running the place like kangaroo's do here?

25 Yard shot. Dry doe. Most likely four or five years old. It was then or never it turned broadside to me and was heading back into the woods. So I had to let fly. I was in a blind on a tree line in a cabbage patch with clovers. http://www.martinarchery.com/2011/exile.php .

I will put a picture up when I get them of the camera. I had to wait till I got home to take acouple. It was pretty dark by the time we got back to the truck.

I have yes. I dont buy it regularly though, its actually quite expensive.

I noticed....but they are everywhere! specially in SA. Seems like it would be cheaper than it is. Check out this little dude that wandered into our camp at Wilpena Pound. This is my son he's checking out:

I can look out my kitchen window now and see about a dozen or so. :)

Awesome! Roos are cool. Can you imagine what the first European settlers thought the first time they spooked up a herd of roos? We were waaaaay out in the sticks and spooked up a bunch of them, and were they FAST! Some emus were nearby and took off in the same direction and passed the roos, lol. Freaking cool as hell!

Great pic.

Thanks Cam.

Redliner - didn't mean to hijack your thread. But back on topic, I hunted whitetail deer for many years. Killed and ate my share with a rifle. Never cared much for bow hunting because I lived in Georgia and it was hot, sticky and misreable drung bow season - and the frigging insects are brutal. Yeah, I was a fair weather hunter, lol.
