What a beautiful fall day it was today!

Cabin fever hit me around 10 a.m. Pretty sure cabin fever doesn't usually happen until deep in the heart of winter. But.... I got the fever and decided to hit the road.

Gas gauge was a hair from E, so first things first. I drove on down the highway to the gas station just a few miles from my house. $3.39/gallon was pretty much the price in the city... so I didn't feel bad at all as I pumped the gas. There was this tiny few moments with a friggin' spider crawling on the deck lid and trying to advance closer to my place next to the fuel door. I reached into the car for a napkin planning on squishing the spider.... but when I returned to where I was.... it was gone. Trust me.... I checked before resuming pumping the gas again.

Anywho..... Gas tank full.... adjusting the AC.... I slipped the gear into D and hit the road. I had a basic idea of the route I was going to take. I had no plans of getting lost.... no time frame to get wherever I ended up.... I just needed to feel the wheel in my hands... the air in my hair.... the stereo bellowing out some favorites.... water and granola bars at the ready..... Ahhhhhh..... I felt free!!!!!!!!!!

The car hit the first gravel road with ease. Seems as though the county people had been taking care of business keeping the roads in decent shape out this far. I felt at ease cruising between 45-50 mph. Lots of curves on the roads I took that involved some braking, but I hardly had to think about it. Very little traffic to deal with. Occasionally I'd have a stop sign where a paved highway or road intruded. While I was stopped... I'd decide.... keep going straight? Right? Left? Mostly I kept going straight.

The colors weren't as bright as I would have liked them to be in the trees and other foliage. There were some pretty nice reds and oranges here and there. Even with all the sunshine.... it was a muted palette for sure. I wasn't going to let that spoil my ride though.

I saw horses... and cows.... lots of farms.... and gravel road in front of me for miles.

All that driving put me in the mood for some apple cider and cinnamon donuts. So eventually, I made it to an orchard and stopped in for a rest. They sold lots of things. But I stood firm on a quart of apple cider and a dozen freshly made cinnamon donuts. Man! That sure hit the spot. Ummmm..... I didn't eat and drink all of it just then of course. :D

...... then I did a bit of shopping and knew it was time to head back home. As I swung into my driveway and looked at my home, I smiled. It wasn't long ago that I lived in the suburbs and longed to take drives out to where I am now living. Funny now that I think about it. I still long for the rides........ when all I really have to do is walk outside my front door and the country and colors are right there. :)

Oh well..... must be being in the car with my hands on the wheel and the feeling of driving where I want to go after all. Maybe not so much the where.

Today was a good day. For that I'm thankful. Here's hoping you all had a good day too. :)

Yes it has.... and I know you'll get back to me when you can. :)

Sounds like a beautiful day - glad you took advantage of that :)
It was a beautiful day to be sure. Today is just as gorgeous. I walked the trails on my property early this morning. Saw some bunnies and a neighbor's cat out stalking. I love this kind of weather.

Yay! Sounds like a plan accomplished! :)
Indubitably. :D

I didn't take my camera with me. Should have I suppose. One never knows when the perfect something is just waiting to have its picture taken. Yes? ;)

Awesome story! Wish I could have gone with you! It rained here all weekend!
Thankz. :)
