All well and fine for those who have no heath issues and feel they can handle the flu..

But look up the statistic and I would rather take my flu shot yearly then take a chance at becoming another victim..

But keep in mind all those you infect and could potentially put at risk of dying as well within your own family as you are sick and pass on the germs, especially in the first day or so you have no clue it's the flu yet and are most dangerous.

But hey, what's a grandma / grandpa or little cousin with asthma who dies due to the flu because.. I'm sure you can live with out them Right ?
Statistic mean jack shit when they're put out by big business. Go to any health expert thats not dishing out synthetic drugs or read up on what goes into a flu/h1n1 shot.

Anyone read about that country that was putting mercury into their h1n1 shots? ya thats good for you....

I have never had one. It makes no sense to me but then I am a prick remember.

The body needs to fight off this kind of stuff naturally IMO. Maybe an older person or somebody with a weak immune system should take them but that is just my opinion

I haven't decided. I have never gotten one before but I am always tempted to since I work with icky snot-nosed kids all day. I love them dearly but sometimes they are just...ick.

Just wash your hands a lot. It does work. Otherwise the doctors would always be sick.

I have heard using antibacterial gel stuff too often can make your immune system weaker. Anybody know for sure? As far as actually washing my hands with soap and water...I rarely have the opportunity for that. The nearest sink is at the other end of the hall and leaving my children unattended is frowned upon.

Two things wrong with your theory..

1) in Canada we don't have to pay for the doctor's visit nor the flu shot if required for health reasons.. So no benefit for Big Pharma as it's the Government that actually runs the program and pays the tab for the flu shots..

2) Thimerosa ( aka mercury ) is still used in Flu shots.. It's also used in vaccines, immunoglobulin preparations, skin test antigens, antivenins, ophthalmic and nasal products, and tattoo inks. Some Standard Contact Lens solutions use Thimerosa.

I would bet you have more mercury in you from eating fish than you have from all these things combined..

Most people here are more afraid of the needle than the flu shot and that's why they refuse to take it..

Which I don't understand because in the US you have the nasal spray version we don't have yet..

nasal spray? i think thats just the h1... I hate needles but thats besides the point. I refuse to put that shit in my body. I try to eat as healthy as possible at home though I'm not perfect. I don't want a dead flu virus in my body making me unwantingly sick when i wouldn't have been sick otherwise.

The Flu nasal mist is available indeed. However, the supply had been limited in some areas. Some employers too being required to provide free vaccination to it's employees were going more for the shots as the mist was more expensive than regular flu shot.

Only limited category of people too can get the spray. It's only for healthy 2 y/0 to 49 y/0. It can't be given too to pregnant ladies.

That's pretty harsh. I don't get the flu shot (just turned it down Monday at my health screening even though it was free) and, to be honest, if someone has health problems such as asthma or something why is it MY responsibility to get a flu shot to protect them from it??? That'd be like me expecting everybody around me to get the shot so I don't get sick, LOL. Also, even though the risk is miniscule, there IS a small chance of passing on the vaccine viruses to others. I've had the flu ONCE in my life and I was 17 at the time...it's not worth the risk for me.

I know there's a nasal spray version available...but I have only seen ONE place offer it and that was the year that there was a swine flu epidemic. Haven't seen it offered since and it definitely wasn't an option Monday.

You heard right. Too much use of antibacterial gels can surely decrease the normal flora (bacteria) that's needed for our normal defense mechanism. The skin is our first line of defense. However in your situation just like when we're busy in the hospital too and no sink is available nearby- then all we can depend on are those sanitizers. Our motto- it's better to be protected and control spread of infection than not at all. But of course hand washing remains to be the best technique.

Additional tips: with use of hand sanitizers- make sure to use lotion to help moisturize your skin. The normal defense system is broken much easier when our skin dries so much.
Avoid the use of antibacterial body soaps and shower gels too

 it weakens the immune system so you can build antibodies.

I don't know with other States but the past 3 years here, it had only been available to high risk groups including health care workers. It was the Department of Health who made the decision as to which areas and departments it was distributed to.

Hmmm...I would think public safety would be included in high-risk, too, but maybe not. Either way, I see no reason to offer the nasal spray if it's much more expensive when there is a cheaper option available.

Never had one. It's aimed at old people and kids in my area.

I'm also afraid of needles, so having a shot would probably me feel worse than getting the flu. The last time I had a serious injection I fainted and was throwing up for half the day. I'll take my chances with the flu.
