But damn am I ever glad that we're passed the holy and sacred 9/11. I've gotten so sick of hearing all about it on the news, throughout the internet --- even on websites dedicated to sports or technology. Yes, it was a tragedy, but this country become obsessed with the day every time it rolls around. I've heard New Yorkers attempt to equate it with the fucking holocaust, yes the deaths of 3,000 people was certainly tragic, but nowhere near the level of the mass extermination of nearly 6 million Jews, 2-3 million Soviet POWs, and another 2 million Poles. Even the holocaust pales in comparison to the mass killings perpetrated by Josef Stalin and Mao Ze-Dong during their reigns of power.

Maybe I'm jaded or something, but it just seems like 9/11 has turned into this holy day where the entire country basically shuts down... either literally or in people's minds. We revere the New York Fire and Police departments... while the U.S. Military has suffered double the 3,000 deaths of 9/11 in the unjust and illegal wars we've waged in its name. I'm not trying to take away from any of the brave and heroic actions taken by the members of those departments, or anything away from the victims and their families of the attacks... but why do we have to become obsessed with the day for weeks every time it comes around. A lot of people these days also seem to forget about the other sneak attack that took place in our history --- Pearl Harbor, where we lost nearly 2,500 people; mostly military.

We just seem to become crippled with fear and obsession over this day. I don't recall any memorials taking place prior to football, basketball, or hockey games when they're played the week of December 7th. Like I said, maybe I'm just jaded... but it's gotten old.

Let the flames commence.

But then, the holocaust happened mainly in Europe and to the Jewish. This happened to the American people.

Added to that, it was a huge blow to the American people's confidence in their country as untouchable.

I'm not saying this exactly excuses the 'hype' over 9/11 but I get the feeling that for a lot of your country, that day has a lot of symbolic meaning as well as the tragedy of what actually happened.

It happened in north america. It is close to home and seems real to us. Thing that happen in the middle east seem so far away. So we dismiss it. I don't care about how people mourn it. If I don't want to watch it then I don't watch it. Let people deal with it the way they can. It is not hurting anyone. It does bother to how we made hollywood movies about the worst terrorist attack in American history. For profit.

You have the right to your opinion. I would not consider what you said as insensitive. Seems like though this is how the media goes about it on most anything anymore.

Having said that...... I have a few things to add.....

1. What they have done to the twin tower sight is amazing. Not so fond of the new building but the grounds and water fall memorial are perfect.

2. Watched a show on tv last night which was a documentary two guys did. That was some outstanding work there which they did that just was a matter of coincidence.

3. To not allow the NY FD and PD at the memorial yesterday was UTTER BULL FUCKING Shit !!!!!!!!! Shame on all involved that shut them out.

I take comfort in knowing that America will never forget September 11th.

That's pretty much all I have to add.

Is that partly because of the efforts and sacrifices of the armed forces afterwards - for which you obviously have a very close affinity for?

I, too, apologize, but I agree. It's hard to have this opinion, I give you credit for having the balls to voice it. It certainly isn't politically correct by any means.

For me, I'm torn between feeling absolute sorrow for the lost and the families of the lost from these attacks and feeling annoyance about how we seemingly turn into the United States of Holy Christ and this is the worst thing that's ever happened on earth, so please remember how bad it was. Like you said, it also isn't on the same scale as a lot of horrible things going on in the world, and I feel sort of embarrassed that we (and I think this is natural for humans) care about this but not enough about those.

Also, a lot of people on my facebook page are in the military, and all they have to say about 9/11 is about the people who chose to fight in the wars. Nothing about those who didn't choose to be involved in this at all.

But at the end of the day, I feel that opinion is probably not good to express, so I usually don't. Not looking to take away from anyone's mourning.

Seriously? you are going to bring up political partisan bullshit where it doesn't belong? You do realize this is nothing more that "Don't build that mosque on ground zero" bullshit. There is absolutely no outrage to be had here...

For those that seem to have lost my point... I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with remembering the day. I'm taking issue with the total and complete obsession that America seems to have with it. We've had memorial programs on TV, articles in newspapers and the internet; people talking about it non stop on the radio, on sports programs --- absolutely everywhere for the last week.

1) The holocaust happened in Europe, Stalin's genocide in Europe/Asia, and Ze-Dong's genocide in far east Asia.

2) I tried not to watch any of it... but that basically meant shutting myself off from the rest of the world. Watching football yesterday I was bombarded with it, watching baseball during the week I was bombarded with it... etc., etc., etc.

3) Do you have an issue with movies like Schindler's List? Making a profit off of the Holocaust?

count me as being insensitive too! and we're not the only ones! on another board im on, someone said that they're tired YEAR AFTER YEAR AFTER YEAR THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AND OVER. of course we cant forget it, they remind us every.single.year. maybe some people WANT to forget it!? yes, its sad and my heart truly go out to all who have lost family and all the ones who have lost their lives because of it. But enough already, yeah?

not once did *i* turn on the tv yesterday. when it was on, it was on stations that wouldnt have mentioned it (hubby watched the hunting channel, son watched his movies or the cartoon network)

I'm torn. I with you in the respect that I watched movies all day yesterday and avoided and "regular tv" because of all the 911 coverage....BUT....it was a horrible, HORRIBLE day that should be never forgotten, but I guess just not rammed down our throats.
