I was at home with my son who was only 1 at the time. My daughter was in 2nd grade. Barney or something like that was on TV and I was on the phone with my friend. My neighbor came banging on my door telling me what happened. I changed the channel and what I saw sickened me. We then saw the 2nd tower hit and at that point it was a confirmed terrorist attack. I took my daughter immediately out of school even before they closed them. I had loved ones working in the city that day, though not in the WTC. All phone circuits were down so there was no getting ahold of anyone to see if they were ok. All I could do was watch helplessly while the city was being destroyed before my eyes as the towers fell. The people I knew were ok with the exception of a very good friend's brother. He was a Port Authority Police Officer. He was out of the building safely but went back in to help. That was the last thing he told his wife on the phone that day...that he was ok, but going back in. They later identified him by a piece of his finger. So many innocent people woke up on a beautiful late summer day and went to work just like any other day. Just a few hours later their lives were taken in such a horrendous way. Never forget.
