When my wife and I were dating we were students and money was not always plentiful. Who am I kidding we were broke.

Last night my daughter called home about 6 and asked if she could bring a friend home for dinner. I said ok. She relayed their conversation.

He calls her and they talk. She asks him if he wants to buy her dinner. He responds I cannot even afford to buy me dinner.

We had a big thing of homemade Lasagna & Salad & bread. Not fancy but filling.

It is kind of odd asking someone if they want to buy them dinner. I mean I don't know if it's rude as much as odd. I don't remember ever asking anyone, man or woman if they ever wanted to buy me any meal?

I think it was my daughter's way of saying she would like to see him but could not afford to buy her own dinner. It worked out where neither had to buy.

I would have taken it as a playful joke meaning just like you said... I want to see you.... I am sure they both know that neither could afford to buy dinner.

The poverty eventually STOPS, right? I'm not seeing the light at the end of the college tunnel :24: at this point my bf and I would never be able to afford kids to have a scenario like this with.
