Ever watch "Holmes on Homes"? I watch it on HGTV and the one question that I can never figure out is who pays for the work done on the house by Mike Holmes?

Last night they ended up replacing a geothermal system, new underground pipes AND duct work. That job would be VERY expensive down here in the states, and have to figure it would be even more up there. I thought the TV production company would chip in, but it looks like some major bucks. I know for a fact that everything for Extreme Makeover on ABC down here is donated time and materials, just not sure about that dang Canadian show LOL.

i have no idea, i always thought the TV companies did it, i think Holmes is a charitable kind of guy so he might do some for free ( i.e his Labour costs) but the materials needed sure cost a big buck and i do not know who pays for that

on behalf of the Canadian population thank you for noticing us

Have a nice day and please remember to visit again

Because the show is a television series, costs for the homeowners, who are likely to be strapped for cash due to the previous contractors' mistakes and/or frauds, are kept to a minimum (10% to 20% of the cost of repair). Some contractors hired on the show have even donated time, materials, and labor to help homeowners in need. The remainder of the work is funded by the TV production company (and indirectly, through the Canadian government, by tax credits), but in some cases, Mike Holmes personally contributes funds towards the repairs.
