Hey John. We're ok here. We lost power a couple of times and the basement got just a little bit of water. My town also has some flooding, a few downed trees and wires. My sister hasn't had power since about midnight. But all in all, not bad. We were very lucky. Thanks for asking. I hope everyone else affected by Irene is ok.
we lost power for seven hours and did the best we could and cleaned our driveway with five bags of leaves and trees...all is good now...very grateful for the electricity....and the animals (two dogs and two cats) held their ground very well....

The lights flickered a few times, but that's about it. There is some flooding though in lower areas and most of the colleges around here are closed tomorrow.
I live above a beverage center and a liquor store and am on a commercial grid, so I'm usually better than most in bad situations such as this and this was no exception. While I was on my computer, all I heard outside was ambulances and firetrucks most of the early part of the day yesterday till things started to clear up here around 3pm. I had no loss of power at all, maybe only a flicker hee and there, but no major problems at all. All we ended up getting was intense rainfall and 75 mph winds that blew out windows and felled trees and power lines, leaving over 90,000 people here in the Capital Region with no power. A state of emergency had been declared by Senator Neil Breslin and from Obama himself and that people should not go outside if they didn't have to travel. I took the time on Saturday to stock up on food and liquids for the week so I wouldn't have any reason to have to venture outside. I saw a passing car several tinmes in the morning hours but in the afternoon, even though it was still bad, I started seeing lots more cars on the road...I'm like wtf...what are you doing out??? My father who lives in Queens left me a voice mail that all he got was rain and I talked to my mom several times and they started evacuating people from the towns of Johnstown and Fonda who were in the vicinity of the dam in that area in fear that it would overflow. They ended up cancelling the Fonda Fair and Saratoga racing for the day as well.
All in all, I think it could have been much worse than it was, but scary to think that at least up here, we had a 5.9 earthquake (a 2.9 in the town of Altamont, which is not all that far from me in Albany) and a tropical storm within almsot a week from each other...wow
glad to hear Aries that you're all okay in your neck of the woods
