I think everyone has already said everything I could think of...thankfully you have been able to move on from all of this, at least for the most part. Most of the paperwork, identification cards, etc. can be replaced. I would definitely continue to monitor your credit reports and bank statements. That's the best and quickest way to catch something going on and get it resolved.

The other thing would be to hire Darrell and me to be your personal body guards and hitmen!

You know 'who' brings that about ;) As always, thanks for being continually supportive.:thumbup

L0L :24: That's a cool idea. You guys are hired! :D

Can't they give your contact info to the person who bought the stuff?

It had previously been asked & answered, i shall quote myself:

I did contact the storage and they can't help me recover those files even if I told them I'll pay for those items. It had something to do with Privacy act for that person/company that bought the unit at auction. Some of those companies/bidders, I was told will gather up the items and return back some items to the storage office hence I was told to wait. Haven't heard a word that there was a return for my requested items :(

When we lost our belongings in storage last June 2011, included are some of our personal files etc containing personal information like:

1) SSS #
2) bank/ savings account #s
3) old checks with copies of signature
4) reserve checks of current checking account
5) Nursing license card copies
6) old driver's license card
7) computer back-up disks ( with pics, documents,files etc)

and maybe more.....( that's all that come to mind atm)

I know of a few like closing the current bank account, monitoring charges/withdrawals on bank accounts etc that needs to be done. How else can I protect myself due to this event ?? Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks :D

did some research for you...unfortunately, unless you have evidence that someone is using your social security number, you cannot get a new number. However, keep an eye out..if someone starts using it, you can be issued a new number and card.

As for bank accounts, best bet is to close them...inform the banks as well. It is important to make sure that they know that if there are any strange charges to your account, that they contact you immediately (and they will!).

Make sure you inform the DMV that it is possible that there is a license floating around...unfortunately, because of things like fake IDs...this probably won't be fixed/remedied in any way. I would also contact the school you received your Nursing license from and inform them as well.

INFORM INFORM INFORM!

I don't think there is much you can do about your back up files though =/
