How many of you....

How many of you travel for work? How frequently is it? How do your significant others and children handle it?

This year, I have been out at least once a month for 3 to 4 days at a time. My oldest daughter is always bummed when I am gone and miss my Wednesday evenings with her but she understands it's part of my job. I have not even left yet and my wife is already talking about missing me. This is mostly because she has only been moved here for less than 2 months and I am leaving for the second time. The last trip was still in the same state, but still 4 hours away. I am likely to make a trip this fall that will have me gone a full week....

So.... People of OTz.. what about all of you?

4,000-6,000 miles a month, usually in State.

Once in a blue moon a flight out of state.

I do a little bit. Mostly in summers. I'm currently working at Canadian Nationals (Arab horse show) and I'll be here for 10 days. If I work at a show I'm usually gone anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks. My farm usually goes to arouind 6 shows a year. A couple of winters ago I also worked in Scottsdale, AZ for my farm and that was for a couple of months. My SO doesn't care (don't have one) and niether do my kids (don't have any). I enjoy it.

I never like sleeping in a strange bed alone. My wife and I were apart 6 weeks before we were married except the weekends. Other than that maybe a night or two in 28 years.

Very rarely.. Maybe to a training class in Seattle for a few days every few years.

Used to. 4 to 6 weeks a year for training. Now I work at the training center and the trainees fly out to see me.

Nah I dont travel that far for work.
My folks however, have done it for years, my mum lives in a different state to my dad and they are still married work is better for him in the other state, he travels home on weekends. He didnt do it much when my brother and i were younger but now we are adults i guess is easier

I used to travel 4 hours away from home 4x per month, did it for 2 years. I would be gone for about 2-3 days/week but was off most of the week to spend time with my son. He liked staying at his cousin's while i was gone hence he didn't mind. I think i missed my son more than he missed me

Now, i travel 54 miles, 1 way, 2x per week. My son doesn't mind as while he's in school, I am at work. Besides, am off about 5 days per week, which he enjoys a lot.

I don't, really. Occasionally I might have to go to Forsyth for a training class, but it's about a 40 minute drive and we don't stay the night. Ideally, I would like to travel half the month...just gotta find me a job that requires it, LOL

Natasha, did they ever convert that old college in Forsyth into some kind of state function? I had forgotten about that until your post about Forsyth.

Tift College....finally remembered the name.

They finally converted it to the HQ for Georgia Department of Corrections in 2010.

We do a lot of in-house training, but there are still some classes that we have to go to GPSTC (aka "Post") for. I haven't been in a couple of years go...last time I went was for Hostage Negotiations.
