"Sounds like you're being critical of him spending monies that he's earned, unemployment is because you've earned it."

Do you agree with the bolded part or disagree? Why?

because I too was in this boat until recently and I did nothing to my employer to create my situation, they couldn't accommodate my going back to school and the economy just got worse and recruiters, headhunters business world were not hiring....

It's hard to say yes or no depending on the context in which it was said. If something were to happen, and I were to be laid off right now, I think I could say I have "earned" my unemployment. I am just about done with my 9th year here.... now some twit that worked for a couple months and got themselves fired... that's a whole different situation.

It is and it isn't. Most people have paid into the system, and their employers have done the same thing. It isn't technically something that you're actively earning though.

I look at it as earned. We pay into the system, the system provides this benefit, we get the money we initially paid in to help in rough times.

I don't agree with people who haven't worked or don't have a reason not to work being able to use it, but that's just one of the flaw in the whole system.

Umemployment is earned?????

When your fired is it earned?
When you lose your job because of a workplace incident is it earned?

I dont beleive in all situations its earned. I mean hell if you quit and are too lazy to get your ass up and get another job then sure its earned but i dunno... im not entirely sure on it covering every scenario.

You can't get unemployment if you are fired for poor job performance, not showing up, etc. or if you quit. If you're laid off or downsized, you can. And yes it is earned.

You CANNOT collect unemployment if you haven't worked.

I have paid into unemployment for almost 28 years. If I were to lose my job or if I were laid off, yes, my unemployment check is due to me. That is exactly why I have been contributing for so many years and that's why it's call unemployment insurance.

And for those who don't understand how unemployment insurance works. Your weekly check is a percentage of what you were earning . The rate is based on your best quarter over the last year if you made enough to qualify.
Your unemployment check is basically 50% of your weekly pay (If you made enough money in the last year to even qualify for UC) Then it caps out at $573 here in PA. So I would be making less than half my salary on UC.

I thought all states were the same

I pay for the unemployment insurance for my employees. It is mandatory. They do not pay a penny into it..

Unless you are self employed Tim I do not believe you paid into the system. Your employer did
The goal of unemployment insurance plans is to offer some relief to employees who lose their income through no fault of their own. Each business that has employees pays into the plan through their state's labor department. The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry (PDLI) manages the unemployment insurance plan for its residents. When you've lost your job, you can claim your benefits through them. The PDLI determines your eligibility and manages the delivery of benefits.

and in MI the rate an employer pays is a percentage that is from a formula based on the amount of money you have drawn from the system over time.

companies today that have had extensive layoffs will take a long, long time to get their account into a positive where their rates are lowered.

also employers in MI are paying a surcharge because the state fund ran dry and had to borrow from the feds. No idea when that surcharge will be dropped. It literally could be 20 years unless the feds pass a law to forgive the loans.

It has turned into more of a welfare program as of late

Way too many people I know of that refuse to take on another job because they get the insurance.

Nobody is talking about it but the extensions are going to cost this country a lot for years

If I did not work for my employer and make him money, he would not have to pay into the UC fund for me.
Basically what I am saying is, it is MY productivity that pays for the UC fund, it's NOT paid for out of the employers pocket.

It's like saying my employer pays me each week out of the goodness of his heart... Not by a long shot. He pays me what I HAVE EARNED. I know I make the company money. good money after they pay all the overhead associated with my employment. That includes all taxes and UC funds. So it is my earnings that pay for it.

Bullshit! Plain and simple bullshit.

How many people do you know that would just give up half their pay and want to stay that way?
You make it sound like there is a majority out there that are that lazy... I'm sorry, I don't buy it, not for one second.

Exactly. It's interesting how some who make payroll think they are doing their employees a favor. When I paid my people I said "thank you" when I handed them their checks. Their labor made me much more money than I could produce by myself.

No it is not bullshit from my own actually observations HERE

we don't get anywhere near the amount you do in PA which may be a factor

and I never said there was a majority Tim

don't put words in my mouth there were not there

typically reactionary from the emotional left. You never disappoint. :24:
