Why do you follow a genocidal God?

Why do you follow a genocidal God?

Bible God, the un-knowable one, has been described in scriptures by someone claiming to know much of the un-knowable God. How the un-knowable can be know has yet to shown. On reading scriptures, some have concluded that Bible God is quite immoral.

I tend to agree based on moral reasons and would like to keep the discussion on morality without going into whether God is real or not. Something that we cannot prove. We can prove though whether we think Bible God acted morally or not.

The first followers of Bible God, the Jews, also seem to agree with Dawkins and myself.

Genocide, or attempted genocide is considered by most to be a low moral position.

Followers of a Hitler or Stalin, who would try to justify their genocidal actions, would not be well received by most of us.

Why then do you think that we should join you in following a God who takes the moral low ground of genocide instead of doing the right moral thing and curing instead of killing those he thinks defective?

As a religionist myself, I can understand seeking God but why would we want to seek, or follow a genocidal one?

What attracts you to a genocidal God?
Is it just that might makes right?

We are to emulate God.
Does that mean that you too would use genocide as a form of what most believers think of as good justice?

Is there anybody who follows God and believes God is genocidal? Maybe Nazis do but the rest probably believe God didn't do it or it was justified. So a better question is, why do you think it wasn't genocide when God told Moses and Joshua to kill all the Canaanites? That sounds like genocide to me.

Personally I don't believe there was a mass genocide of Canaanites by the Hebrews. Hebrews in any significant number were never in Egypt. The Exodus story is a myth. The Hebrews lived in the hill country of Palestine. The Canaanites lived in the valleys. Over time the Hebrews eventually displaced many of the Canaanites and then were finally displaced themselves.

Should morality not be discussed in many venues?

You shouldn't shotgun threads all over the place, and then not actually provide anything meaningful to the discussion that occurs. That's all you do here... post inflammatory threads, and then can't be bothered to defend them. At least the trolls that are no longer here tried to defend the shit they spewed.

He's got some serious issues with Christianity that border on the obsessive.

This I can partially agree with.

It is my view that all literalists and fundamentals hurt all of us who are Religionists.
They all hurt their parent religions and everyone else who has a belief. They make us all into laughing stocks and should rethink their position. There is a Godhead but not the God of talking animals, genocidal floods and retribution. Belief in fantasy is evil.

Apparently it's opposite day, where the truth means BS. You never actually respond to the matter at hand, you deflect and come up with some other argument to make that prevents you from directly responding to people putting holes in your "points".

You would be right as imaginary Gods cannot kill anyone. Their followers, as Christianity shows, can and do kill many though.

So if imaginary Gods can't kill anyone, how can someone follow a genocidal God?

You never did answer a question of mind some time ago. What do you do for a living? I only ask because I can't help but wonder if you're a working smuck like me and just likes to shower everyone with your intelligence or if you had some formal study in religious affairs?
