Go on, what's good about where you live? Let's say hypothetically people are coming to visit and would be encouraged by a glowing report. Sell your hometown/city.

Padfield

Plenty of local wildlife
Friendly people
Decent bus service (alright, one an hour, but it's reliable)
Plenty of walking areas
Nice park/picnic area
Local pub with local food

(I'm struggling)

Ok so this would only appeal to a small range of people......your turn.

Nightlife: World-class dining, Fox Theater, at least a dozen concert venues
Education: Best zoo in the US, High Museum (Partner of the MOMA in NY), Emory, Ga Tech, GSU, TEN other universities
Sports: NFL, NBA, MLB, AAA Baseball, AA Hockey, Ga Tech
Climate: Too hot in the summer, true... but just enough Winter to make you feel you had one.
Recreation: Within an hour of downtown you can hit the beach, the mountains or woods.
Transportation: Busiest airport in the US (main hub for Delta and AirTran) so flights go everywhere, subway, major highway system

Location - half an hour from London city centre yet surrounded by beautiful countryside
Large town park
Full of sculptures by world famous artists
Good shops
Well laid outs with lots of green areas
Good sports centre and swimming pool which will be used for the 2012 Olympics as a training facility
Speaking of which, very close to most of the 2012 Olympic venues with the nearest, the canoeing and also the mountain biking being only 5 miles away
Jade Goody died so dosen't live, crash cars or shop lift in ASDA here any more

BRUSSELS

* it rains most of the time and when it's not it's still grey and miserable
* people are rude and grumpy
* the biggest tourist attraction is a statue of a little boy pissing
* it is dirty, filthy dirty.
* there is dog poo all over the footpaths because apparently Belgians are above cleaning after their animals
* nothing is ever easy. Everything required a million different forms to fill out and you NEVER have the right one.

I could go on but I think it's safe to say you're all already desperately trying to book flights here :D

Only about an hour and a half from New York City.
Woodstock happened about ten miles from me.

That's about it.

What beach is an hour from Atlanta?

Drive like a bat out of hell, perhaps the Gulf Shore?:D

Best thing I got going on in my neck of the woods is I can shoot off my back porch at night and no one cares. That and you can drive your tractor and lawnmower to the gas station.

http://www.lakelanierislands.com/index.php

"Lake Lanier (officially Lake Sidney Lanier) is a reservoir in the northern portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. It was created by the completion of Buford Dam on the Chattahoochee River in 1956, and is also fed by the waters of the Chestatee River. The lake encompasses 38,000 acres (150 km2) of water, and 692 miles (1,114 km) of shoreline at normal level, a "full summer pool" of 1,071 feet (326 m) above mean sea level."

Nah - He's not talking about the real beach. Probably Lake Lanier with trucked in sand lol.

It's about 300 miles to the Redneck Riviera (Panama City Beach Florida) and about 270 miles to Tybee Island on the Georgia coast.

We posted at the same time. Born and raised in metro Atlanta. I lived off Lawrenceville Suwanee Road in the 90's. 20 minutes to Lake Lanier Islands. We had season passes to the park for years. Learned to water ski there in the early 80's. Nice lake, but hardly qualifies as a beach.

One thing I don't miss about the Big A is traffic and urban sprawl. Los Angeles got nothing on Atlanta traffic any more.

Yeah, I agree. I'm from Florida so it's a wrench to call Lake Lanier a beach... but it is nice to be able to spend the day boating around it. Big enough so you can't see the other side in places.
