Now I seriously cant see anything coming close to J R R Tolkien or Terry Pratchett but can anyone give me any recomendations for the next best thing out there and please dont say Anne Mcathry because her stuff is boring and personally she's a bit of a cunt.

The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan (and Brandon Sanderson for the last three books). There are currently 13 books out, and the final one is due to be released in March.

Try Patrick Rothfuss and his books The Name Of The Wind and The Wise Man's Fear. They're the first two in a saga and damn, they're really good. Long, but great. The first one is slow to start but then picks up and gets amazing :) definitely worth a go.

I'm getting ready to start A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. I was going to start reading it already, but I decided to hold off until I finished up re-reading all of the Harry Potter books, of which I have 1.5 to go. It's supposed to be a really good series... hell, they made an HBO TV series out of it.
