Like you, I would think that whatever a pet shop sells for pets to consume would be safe. I'd at least go back and read the original bag/box the product came out of to begin with.

I would still confront them. And I don't mean that as confrontational. Just tell them your concern. Make sure they did not sell something potentially harmful. And if they did then it is on them if they continue. You then will have done your part and confirmed their incompetence or that it was actually a safe product.

The sad reality is that petshops are just businesses at the end of the day. Very few of them truly have the best interest of the animals at heart. Bottom line is the profit.
