Does anyone suffer Anxiety?

For some reason, I have started to get it. Not sure what has caused it. But do you get it? and how do you deal with it?

I treated my depression with weed, so I'll have to disagree with my experience, but it affects everyone differently

I have dealt with anxiety on and off for many years...for as long as I can remember. Some days more than others. One thing that really started to help me was joining OTz. I use to keep a lot in, dealing with it scrictly on my own. I've noticed that just by posting on here, regardless of the topic and whether or not it had anything to do with me - has helped tremendously...even on the tough topics :)

I also enjoy just taking a walk, go to the park, or work on/build something or do yard work around the house. Good friends and music help too. There is a pond in my neighborhood...sometimes I'll just go up there and fish, even if nothing is biting - it helps clear my mind. Or simply by going home and being greeted my boys...that can be very helpful...though sometimes it can add to the stress. Ha!Ha!

Another way that I deal with it is by praying - I know I know :), but it helps me.

To sum it up...as soon as I start feeling any anxiety at all, I try to do something to occupy my mind and take it off of whatever seems to be weighing me down or stressing me out.

I have never been a very anxious person. But the last few months I have experienced a bit of anxiety over some things. I think its something I will work through myself, its not too serious.

Hope you find something that helps :D

There are plenty of substances to mask anxiety, but anxiety is good in reasonable quantities. Unfortunately, the best way to make troubling anxiety manageable is to utilize cognitive behavioral therapy tricks...basically slowing yourself down, breathing, removing oneself from upsetting environments momentarily (treating the sensorimotor responses first), then purposefully replacing distressing thoughts with positive thoughts...rinse and repeat until it becomes habit and episodes of high anxiety become less frequent.

Tough but a worthy skill to learn, I think.

Good point.

Medication may relieve the problem, it doesn't solve it.

I have normal anxiety I guess. The kind I can push through. My boyfriend on the other hand has severe anxiety. He's been diagnosed with social phobia and agoraphobia (fear of crowds).

Slowly but surely he's improving. He goes to the gas station across the street and with me to the store sometimes =] It may not sound like much but he didn't leave the house two years ago.

Yeah, sometimes it paralyzes people. I'm glad he is starting to see a light.

Don't know if it was mentioned, but exercise is very important. Also, staying away from alcohol and cigarettes. There are many websites out there covering this and also many forums.

I don't smoke. So I won't touch the stuff

I'm not telling you to use that to combat anxiety, I was just piggy backing off what Dex said. Also, you know their are many alternatives to smoking it? This isn't 1964. :p

Damn. Not good. He has got it bad. Poor guy.

He's getting better. We went for ice cream last week, at his suggestion. That never happens lol.
He's there for me through important stuff. I've been to the ER a few times since we got together and he never left my side. Then when my mom passed, he attended most of her memorial. He started having a panic attack and I made him go home lol.
