Before I get started, I am aware this question is overall down to me and me alone. I just want to get both sides of the story before I make a decision. Basically I'm currently in college, I was predicted alot higher than I am going to achieve. I could be achieving BBC to CCD and was predicted in the AAB region. Due to my half arsed year, I have missed out on my first choice uni and am having to settle between second and third choice. My question is should I resit the year, knowing I do have what it takes to come out with roughly A Computing A Mathematics A/B Business studies. I am quite a social and outgoing person so I will be mingling with the new year group pretty easily so that is not an issue and in the long run I think it will benefit me. Although if I don't go this year, I will catch the student fees going up but if other people can handle it why can't I? As of now I'm more inclined to resitting the year. What do you guys think?

Other information: Computer Science is my course in an average uni. Another year would allow me Software Engineering in a more prestigeous university,

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. Say I go with university. Work my ass off and get a decent degree. It'll still be tainted by CCD or whatever I get.

Haven't seen you here in a while Matty! If it were me I wouldn't resit the year, but then I was always satisfied with just barely doing enough in school, if you're disappointed in yourself perhaps you should resit the year.

I know long time no speak, might be on here a bit more soon. ;D And yeah I'm gonna talk it over with my parents but most likely resit.

I would not have gone to uni if the fees were £10,000 a year like they are now. That is way too steep unless your going to one of the top 5 uni's.

IMO you need to consist how much effort you will be able to dedicate if you do retake. The reason you are here now is because clearly you haven't given it your all. If you feel you can knuckle down and do what is required then yes, re-do. However, it will not look good if you end up redoing only to achieve the same marks. Can you knuckledown?

I could, but at the same time I had a fair point raised this morning. Basically if I do get into university, which I will, just take it. My career will only be determined by how hard I work and how well I do in my degree. Apparently employers barely look at A Levels.

True, but they do look seriously at the quality of uni you go to.

A 2:2 from Oxbridge is worth more than a first from Portsmouth.

As an employer, if I looked at your academic record and saw you resat a year, I might be inclined to think; "This person sets a bar for himself. If he doesn't reach his own expectations, he'll keep trying."
Get my drift?
