IMO, it's an accepted practice around here for the reasons Pan listed above.
I don't see anything wrong with doing it when they're young to prevent them the pain of enduring that at an older age when they're more likely to remember (and no, I'm not using that as a justification, per se. I'm just saying that I have not met a guy who's taken a swift kick to their private area that thinks it felt good and would want to experience that type of pain for, as you put it, aesthetic purposes.)

Besides, there are developments out there that if a guy grows up and wishes to have the uncircumcised look, they can regrow that foreskin. I think that changes the argument a bit.

I don't know. I agree that a baby is their own person, and that they should be making their own decisions. But I don't think it's "child abuse" to circumcise your son, or to get your daughter's ears pierced. I'm definitely in the camp that it's up to the individual family, and I would never try to intrude on someone else's rights in this situation. I just don't get why it has to be described as child abuse to practice something that people of the Jewish faith have been doing for eons.
 
In the UK you can only get a circumcision if you are part of a Religion that requires it (and even then the NHS might say no - it'll depend from area to area) or for medical reasons (and when I say that, a problem must have already presented itself and circumcision is the only option. It will not be done just incase a future problem may arise). Doctors on the NHS are very unlikely to perform it for any other reasons as it is seen to be unethical. Most circumcisions are done privately and cost around £90-£130.


I found that out from conversations with women in the UK with baby boys. And not even because I was interested in ever having it done if I ever have a baby boy, I was just curious at whether it is readily available when it's such a taboo and emotive subject.

Yeah, I mean they don't whip out a babies tonsils just incase they give them trouble later on in life, I don't understand the logic of cutting off part of tiny babies penis just incase they have problem in the future

Yeah I agree. And being circumcised doesn't mean a guy is going to be free from problems with his dick.

My ex was circumcised and had thrush. Really grossed me out (he sent me pictures of his penis and it was horribly red and swollen then told me loads about what happened at the doctors) and I was soooooo glad I hadn't slept with him for nearly 2 months.

I didn't sleep with him even after it had gone away. Luckily we broke up a couple of weeks later.

What I don't like about the whole debate is that people who are circumcised or prefer circumcised penis' behave so superior to those who are uncircumcised. They consider it dirty and gross, someone in this thread even said it can be used as an insult 'dirty uncut man.'

Its so strange, HAVING foreskin is natural and normal. That is how it was designed so unless there is a medical reason to have it removed leave it as is. It is just like any other body part, clean it well and every day and you're golden.

I actually much prefer the look of a non-circumcised penis, not to mention how much fun they are to play with :)
 
I'm not getting into the circumcised vs. non-circumcised debate b/c, whaddaya know, it's not what this thread was actually about. I think it's pretty well accepted that things that are the norm in the UK aren't the norm in the US and vice-versa. I don't think people stress over it that much in the US b/c, quite frankly, it's the "norm" in the US is for a male child to be circumcised. I'm sure it's just the opposite in the UK...you guys probably don't go to doctors demanding circumcisions, either. It's just what normal practice happens to be. *shrugs*

I have never met a penis that I didn't like the looks of it. They're not the prettiest thing in the world to look at, but I don't enjoy them b/c of their aesthetics. ;) I have never been w/ an un-circumcized man, so I can't give my opinion on those as I've only seen them in photos.
