Stanley Cup Finals thread

That kind of crap pisses me off

same as hits to the back of legs when the play moves up ice

should be a match penalty and 20 game suspension

he clearly had passed the puck and the guy had plenty of time to back off but instead lined him up

That is the game Bettman asswipe wants when there are no consequences. Somebody should have cleaned that guys clock big time for that lack of respect

It was a 5min major and a game misconduct, and most likely a suspension as it was a blatant violation of rule 48. I fail to see how this is an opportunity to blast Bettman... the guy is a moron to be sure, but the rules have been followed in this case. Punishment was doled out on Rome, and he'll probably end up with a suspension. I don't really know what more you could want here.

You must not have been a fan of hockey as a young lad or you would know what I mean.

I got my dates mixed up and was thinking some of the rules were brought in after Bettman took office. The instigator rule was in fact a year before.

There is little or no respect in hockey for the welfare of other players anymore by far too many players. IMO and many others it can be attributed to the asinine rules about fighting.

1. Third man in
2. Leaving the bench
3. Instigator

All these rules eliminated enforcers. You did not see people taking head shots before along with the slashing the back of the knees nearly as much as now back in the day before these rules. That is because you knew you would get your ass whooped by somebody on the next shift or sooner.

I am sure there were the exceptions but I recall nothing like the Claude Lemieux hit on Chris Draper happening years ago. Lemieux was a dirty player who would not fight. If he had pulled a stunt like that back when Howe was playing Lemieux would not have left the ice on that shift without being attacked.

I remember back in a game when Orr was given a bit of a cheap shot in a game against Toronto. There was a full blown donneybrook that ensued for at least 10 minutes with almost every single player matched up against somebody.

Bettman has perpetuated rules that do not work. Fighting is part of the game. You try to over control it and you end up with what we now have.
