I didn't see this yesterday, but it's amazing. The colors are so rich! Damn they are ugly though! :yuk

Fantastic pictures!!.. :):thumbup
How close do you get to them?.. How powerful is the zoom in your camera?..

Now I have to go find what a "female broad bodied chaser" is.. Are they mayflies... sawflies... syrphids... ?

its a dragonfly, you'll have different species over there that are equally as colorful.....for the male i was about 3 feet away with the 90-300mm on.....but the female was with a 60mm macro lens with no zoom so i was less than a foot away

It's regularly astonishing how you make awful animals look amazing. oO

i dont do that, they actually do look amazing

First and second shot are my favourites. This is the one you were on about when I mentioned 3 photographers going for a blue one eh.

This is my fave among all the bug pics you've posted :thumbup

Is there like a certain 'angle' where you've stayed a distance away from the dragonflies? Where you've experienced that at that angle they would be more sensitive to knowing you're on them and they're more likely to fly away ?

they've got pretty much all around vision so they can always see me,what ive found though is that the females of most species are much more approachable

:thumbup but I like the third and last shot the best. It's the side profile that gets me instead of the usual back shots. Good job.
