My Niece is Having Brain Surgery Today..

My sister's daughter was diagnosed with a Meningioma -a brain tumor at the base of her brain- a few weeks ago and is undergoing brain surgery today.. The tumor was two inches in diameter at the time of the diagnosis and has been growing very fast..

I just called my parents , and they told me the surgery started this morning at 8, and they don't expect it to be over until at least 9 or 10 tonight.. :(

She is 39 years old and has been married for about ten years, and trying unsuccessfully to become pregnant through "in vitro fertilization" for the last seven years...
The tumor has grown as a result of the hormones given to her during the treatments, but no one had any idea it was happening..

My sister lost her husband to cancer when she was 38, and exactly a year later was involved in a terrible car accident.. Her 17 year old son died in her arms.. and she spent five months in intensive care, clinging to her life.... Then another two years in rehabilitation to learn to walk, and live again..

Her daughter is the most precious thing to her.. And to me too...
I wish I could be there with them right now, but it was impossible for me to travel the fifteen thousand miles that separate us.. so I'm there in spirit...

Please pray for my niece and my family if you can..

positive vibes coming to her

can i ask, do they know for sure that the tumor is a direct result of the hormones

Yes, they know that for sure..
Those tumors are normally benign, and grow and feed on hormones..

They have done an enormous amount of tests on her since the diagnosis and the results showed that there was a lot of accumulation of those hormones in that area..
We won't know anymore until after the surgery is over and they can biopsy the tumor..

so i would hope that they have suspended treatment of others with same hormones, i know you wont know that but seems a good idea seeing as how they now know this feeds tumours

in any event - i have every confidence she will pull through
