I think that has a lot to do with how insects are portrayed in the media and pop culture. If you think about anytime you see a bug it's usually a nasty ass looking fly, roach, or some hairy as fuck spider with big fangs. I think that people get this subconscious message that all insects are disgusting pests. The truth is that insects are invaluable to our eco system, and without them we would all be in a lot of trouble.
