This is dripping with with traditional sexist stereotypes. No offense, as I'm sure you didn't mean it that way, but I'm sure there are a few women - especially on our site - who could take care of themselves.


And I think it adds a little to mass hysteria when shit like this is spread. It also stops the REAL warnings from getting any attention.

Just like the fake Amber Alert e-mails, and the fake "help me find my husband" shit on facebook....





It is smart to take precautions which is why I always look stuff like this up before I pass it on.

This is no different than the old "gangs are looking to shoot and kill white women in Wal-mart parking lots" e-mail that circulated last year. You should ALWAYS be cautious...shouldn't need an e-mail to tell you that.

I don't. My point is that a couple of days ago I would have stopped. NOW....I'd probably still stop......but I'd call the police and wait for them to get there first. I dont' go around afraid of my own shadow, that's not me and will never be me, and I agree with you for the most part about these rotten emails.........but to be perfectly honest with you, the only thing that this email did for me was make me think of the chances we sometimes take. I consider myself to be an intelligent person but intelligent people are found murdered every day. I just received this email yesterday, I've never seen it before........my first instinct was to share it and that's what I did.

Ummm, okay. I know that you're on the defensive due to some of the reactions in the thread but I didn't say anything about that...but thank you for the explanation. My point was that we should ALWAYS be hypervigilant about our safety and well-being and not just b/c we've heard another story of a new bogeyman.

I'm not being defensive doll, you were making a point and so was I. Discussions in person are so much better don't you think, a persons tone seems to get distorted when all we can do is type. I agree with you and in a way, that was my point as well, it's just that sometimes we lose sight of it. Sometimes, it takes something like this to shake us back into reality.

Despite this being a hoax message, it does make me think. I always revert back to the scene in Silence of the Lambs where the girl helps that old guy move his couch and he kidnaps her. You really never know, and we face so much danger, it is interesting what humans deem "dangerous" and not.

OMG that was a good movie and I remember that scene very well. I think every time I watch it I'm screaming at the screen 'NO! DON"T DO IT, HE"S A MANIAC!!!!'...lmao. Seriously though, you're so right, we hear of people disappearing everyday, who knows what lurks in some evil minds out there. It made me think too Panacea, thanks for helping me make my point. :thumbup

I've never heard of it until the other day when a friend sent it to me in an email. I didn't forward it to anybody else, I just thought I'd bring it up here for discussion. It's been interesting so far.....but I'm beginning to think that I should've posted it in debate...lol

lol, well, I'm sure similar stuff happens alright but I'm guessing if there was some sort of serial cop impersonators out there that it would be all over the news plus they'd have them caught pretty quick! I'd imagine (well I hope anyway!!) that impersonating a cop would be a very serious offence!
