To go to school to get my CDL. I am just wanting to try something different.
What do you think? Good idea or not?

Not married. I am just wanting it for local routes, or construction jobs. I dont want to do OTR. I would miss my kid too much.

I did exactly what you are thinking about doing but went with the goal of going OTR. I enjoyed my years behind the wheel and was lucky enough to see the majority of Canada and the USA pulling mostly skateboards. That kept me off the major highways / interstates for the most part so the scenery was nice. I also did a six month stint on a rig doing local P & D but would I do it again. Probably not. Any job behind a wheel especially local is a thankless job and the hours are endless as a rule. I wish you luck if you do it though.

Edit: The pay isn't the best in the world either.

The word CDL pisses me off to no end

Just another govt rule that is way over reach

It will open the door to a lot of jobs though as a result if you get it.

It is always good to have open avenues, and with the economy being the way it is, having a CDL would give you an opportunity to look for another type of job, should you ever become unemployed..

There are many things to consider, and having a child would be one.. you would have to think about that if you couldn't get regular daytime working hours..

Have you done research about jobs with UPS?.. They always hire extra drivers for the holidays.. but you have to do training before that.
I don't know how many hours you need to get your license, but it could be something to keep in mind.. :)

This is what you should have written....;)
It will open the door to a lot of low paying, long hour bullshit jobs though as a result if you get it. :D

When we moved from the prairies to our present location I had to get my BC license and when I did I gave up my class 1 ( is that better AA :D ). The reason I gave it up is because I didn't want to be tempted to go back on the road. It would be easy enough to get it again but the time involved would be my cooling off period. :24:
