A day to celebrate being English!

But not just English; Georgia, Serbia, Russia, Turkey, Bosnia and many more that stemmed from the Byzantine Orthodoxy all recognise St George as an important patron. Even some cities, such as Jerusalem and Genoa where the saint is not recognised nationally, provide service for him.

All these places celebrate St. Georges day on April 23rd, but not everybody celebrates it on the same day - those such as Georgia and Serbia celebrate St Georges day on April 23rd according to the Julian calender, which is sometime in May according to the Gregorian.

So here's to all children of St. George, all over the world:

Here's some flags of all the countries and cities (and some football clubs) that have the St Georges Cross in some form or another:

I'm trying to think of other teams that use the flag in some form, and there are many, but I am stuck for now

In the UK, if ST Georges Day falls during Easter it is celebrated on the Monday after the second Sunday.
so this year it's not until May 2nd

But Zorak wasn't pleased when I told him that and when I showed him the UK Church of England website proving this, he refused to read it.

It depends on what branch of Christianity you follow but in the UK, the CofE and the Catholic Church both change it. Most people don't know that because Easter usually falls earlier so it's celebrated on the 23rd as usual.

I've been educated in this thread and this post has the most supporting evidence
"Churches", pfft

Isn't england a predominantly atheist country anyway?

I guess we could be called, de facto atheist. We have no official rule that states the seperation of church and state or anything like that as far as I'm aware. In the same way we're a sort of De Facto republic.
