Now that spring is here, we're being inundated with moths, and I have no idea why.
We've had the windows open a few times but we seem to have at least one moth around the house every day now, which seems far too frequent for how often we actually have doors or windows open. Are they likely to be living inside the house somewhere or are we just unlucky?
I don't mind them much because they don't bite or do much except flutter about looking drab, but having them about feels a bit dirty.
Any tips on keeping them out?
There are so many types of moths that it would be almost impossible to give you a good tip without know what kind they are..
Most moths are harmless, some of them are beneficial, and others are not.. Look in this link and see if you can find yours:

It is a big site and most bugs in it are from the US and Canada, but you might get lucky and find something there or by going through their links..
I know that many people recoil in horror when they see something inside their houses and their first instinct is to kill them, but I don't..
Living in the middle of the woods, with lots of water around, and high humidity, I get all kinds of bugs and critters inside the house and I'm used to them.. I just grab a tissue, or a paper towel if it's something a little bit more substantial.. pick them up and release them outside..
I do that with anything, from flies to moths.. to little wood mice, spiders and whatnot..
Some questions from me:
Do you have window screens that you can close?..
Do you know if they are pantry moths?..
Do they fly during the day.. or at night?..
If what you have are pantry moths, they are harmless but very annoying :willy_nilly:
Maybe you have the little traps we have here.. they are made of cardboard that has a triangle shape, and you put them inside your kitchen cabinets or on a shelf in your pantry.. Inside they have a sticky substance and a special pheromone that will attract them.. Once they go inside, they get stuck to the glue.. When the trap is full :yuk... just put it in the trash..
If your moths fly at night, they will go where there is a bright light.. In that case, turn off all the lights and let them fly out or chase them out of the window.. they will happily go to the nearest light bulb.. where the spiders will trap them in their webs and then have a nice moth meal.. :eek
If they fly during the day, chase them out of the house with a fan turned on high..
