Do kidnapped children ever reappear?

I don't know how many people remember, and I don't know if the yanks even heard much about it, but about 3-4 years ago there was a huge media thing here about a couple who went on holiday and left their three year old daughter Madeline McCann and her twin baby siblings sleeping in their ground floor hotel room while they went to get dinner. When they came back, Madeline had been abducted, and is still missing.

I started thinking about this because someone on twitter has set up a new 'awareness profile' to try and keep people looking.

I can't help but feel like it's a waste of time. The intentions are obviously good but it was over three years ago. If nothing else, she's not going to look like she does in the publicity pictures, and although they've tried to create CGI versions of what she might look like now... I think if I were on holiday in a foreign country and saw a small blond girl with a family, I wouldn't be thinking 'maybe she's maddy mccann'. There are too many little blond girls out there. People say things like 'but she had unusual coloured eyes', which she did, but how close, ironically, can you easily get to a strangers child to see something like that?

Do kidnapped children ever show up again after such a long period of time? And considering that she was so young when she was taken, will she even remember much about her real family?

I think she'd probably remember her family, but I don't think she'll ever turn up. Mostly because I think her family had somethig to do with it, it's always seemed a little fishy to me the whole thing.

They got looked into at the time, I think a lot of people wondered the same thing. There were lots of things that didn't add up. But then, unless they ever find a body, we'll never know for sure.

I know there was some suggestion that as both parents were doctors, maybe they'd accidentally given her an overdose, trying to make sure she stayed asleep while they were out or something, and then pretended she'd been abducted so as to not go to jail/lose their licenses. Pretty horrific though.
 
I'd imagine she's probably dead. Some arn't though, depends a lot on the circumstances. I think Ben Needham is still alive. And of course there's that one that happened in the USA a year or so ago when that girls showed up about 15 odd years later.

You must be thinking about someone else HTC because to date they have not found her remains.

There have been numerous cases where kidnapped / lost children have been found alive many years after the disappeared so one should never give up. AA pointed out one example but if you Google " recovered kidnapped children " you'll see a lot of other ones.

One of the most famous ones was that little gal from Utah by the name of Elizabeth Smart.

Unfortunately those endings don't happen often enough as most children are murdered within just a few hours of their abduction. It makes me sad just thinking about it.

I don't think its a waste of time at all.
We can't give up on these children because maybe they might have.
In the US they found a young lady that have been missing for years.
She was kidnapped when she was 12 and the guy that did it fathered two children with her.
Its never a waste of time when a wrong has been committed.:(

Whether they were or not, they were still really shitty parents! What responsible adult leaves two toddlers alone in a hotel room in a strange country while they go out on the piss? What's even more galling is that they wern't given a hard time because the're respectable middle class people. If they had been some single mum on benifits, the media would have turned her into the UKs most hated person.

3 toddlers! They left Maddie and their twins. And I agree Pete. I feel utterly sorry that their daughter was taken but they really should NOT have left their kids like that, especially when there was baby sitting services available! If Maddie had walked out the hotel room and drowned in the pool or fallen out of bed, hit her head and laid there unconscious for 30minutes waiting for her parents to "check" , they would not get ANY sympathy at all.


But back to the OP, some missing children are found! There was a story recently about a woman who was snatched as a baby, who thought she wasn't part of her family so went on the internet, found the stories and the pictures and ultimately got re-united with her family.
