Peeping Tom, of sorts

Had an event with a "peeping Tom" today.

Granted, he was all of 6. But I got pissed off. I kind of did the "what the fuck" gesture, and then tore out the apartment and went and found him, his brother and sister hanging out a building over. I asked if they were all related and the oldest (maybe 9 or 10) says Yeah, so I asked if he could get their mom. We wander two buildings away from mine, and she comes out. So I told her I know he's just a kid, but he was looking into my apartment, blah blah blah. She just stares at me. And then looks at her oldest and says "que dice?"

So I told her- Mi ventana. Mire en mi ventana.

She tore into him and only paused to say thank you to me. So I said gracias and walked away.

Not only did I rat a kid out for being a snoop, but I ratted a kid out in Spanish.

6 years old? Maybe an over reaction on your part? :dunno

I thought about just letting it go, but what if it's a habit he keeps up, and looks into the wrong person's apartment and someone isn't as nice about it? We live in a not so great area. All I did was bring it to his mom's attention. Up to her from here on out to do anything or not.

But no, I don't think I overreacted.

I have to agree. I would want to know if my 7 y.o was peeping into strangers houses.....and the older kids could have been leading him astray.

That's fair enough.

But it's not like he just walked by and looked over. That happens all the time. The joys of being ground level. My blinds were barely raised, and twisted shut. He walked over, crouched down and put his hands up so he could seen in better.

The OP was "Peeping Tom...OF SORTS"....it was just a play on words;)

I maintain you did the right thing...not just for YOUR safety and privacy, but for his.

What if he "peeped" into some pervs house....perv asks him in......better to warn his mum to warn/teach him NOW at a young age about the dangers of what he's doing.

... I asked if he could get their mom...

:):thumbup Kudos for doing that!.. :clap
Most people would just yell at the kid.. Hopefully she will do something about it..

:D I could teach you a few more words...

They sell blinds that open from the top.. They were created specifically for ground floor windows.. that way you can always have the bottom closed to prying eyes.
I had them when I lived in NYC..
You can also open the top window and lock the bottom one, preventing anyone from getting into your apartment..
This setup really makes you feel safer.. ;)

I don't think the term peeping is appropriate for a 6 or even 7 year old. Why don't we keep that term for the perverts of the world. Kids are curious, not peeping toms

So when your kids are 6 or 7 years old, you're not going to talk to them or educate them about looking into a room where someone could possibly be getting dressed? Curiosity leads to more as they get older, and if the problem isn't nipped in the bud from the beginning, then it can only get worse from there.

I could have said something to him, but I remember being younger- someone other than Momma or Daddy tells you off and it's like yeah, ok, whatever, who do you think you are. Let his Momma put the fear in him.

I used to be fluent, but I never use it. :( Makes me said.

I don't know if we can change our blinds, or afford to, but it's something to look into in the future. Our windows open side to side, so we have bars to keep them from being forced.

Yep, play on words.

I didn't even think about pervs.

My thoughts exactly.. :)

My husband and I still speak Spanish between us, but sometimes I notice it's getting a little rusty..
I used to be fluent in Italian also, but I haven't used that language in years.. :(

I forgot about not being able to change things when renting.. but all is not lost..
You can use a tension rod, like those for shower curtains, and make some cafe curtains out of some cheap material, an old tablecloth, or even a sheet..
You can find some gently used ones at a thrift shop or goodwill, and you might be lucky enough to find the rod there also.. I find great things at those places.. ;)
