do u lock your door during the day? even if you're home?

Our door locks itself when you pull it closed. Obviously we can open it from the inside but you need a key if you're outdoors.

But then we live in a house, not an apartment, so maybe it's different for that type of door.

If I'm home the door stays open, unless it's night time, I lock it after 9pm, nobody comes then. From my bedroom window I can see the front door so I can who's there and whether or not I want to speak to them. People here don't just walk into your house here though, unless they are related, then it's ok. When I go out I lock my door, you can never be too careful.

wtf? do you know these people?
yes... Another recent instance is why i also keep it locked. I had a guy come check my oxygen concentrator... He knocked, I said hold on, he must of heard "come in" or must of thought i was speaking Swahili because as i approached the door i saw him try to turn the knob... Get a clue folks. (not anyone here just people in general)

I always get confused between "come in" and "hang on" so I just wait outside.

I did just walk into a friend's house the other day, but we'd been invited over for a BBQ and they had the door open and the screen closed, so I went in and yelled hello. They were out back with the door open. (Fenced in yard, so I couldn't tell.)

Sometimes I think I've locked the door, but haven't; sometimes I think I haven't, but have. I'm usually not worried during day light, for whatever reason, but after dark- it's locked and shades are drawn.

My patio door is unlocked during the day if I'm in and people who know me knock at it if they come visiting, hardly use the front door. My friends are polite so I dont have a problem with people just walking in my home, uninvited.

Yes, it is.
I remember, when I was a child that the backdoor of my grandma's house used to be open the whole day and whenever neighbours or friends arrived they could come in. - At current times this wouldn't be possible if you didn't want to risk your life. Sad but true. :-/

You know, I'm not so sure.

I reckon the chances are just the same of being horribley murdered, but all we read and hear about now are the rare cases where it does happen.

Too many cases in the newspapers here to be rare cases, in my opinion. Even little villages aren't as safe as they were in former times. As soon as you've forgotten the last horrible news the next one is there. :willy_nilly:
