Thanks peeps.

I had captured the male in flight at 1/1650 second and even that didn't freeze the wings so it came out a bit blurred. It would have made for a great shot because it's such a colorful bird. Maybe next time.

Red Winged Black Birds hang around this area and on our property. We used to get Killdeer too..... but haven't seen them in a few years on our property.

I'm dying to get a Killdeer shot especially when they feign a broken wing. I love that.

I've actually seen that right here when we were building our home. A Killdeer made a nest on the ground where we had to eventually dig for back fill around the house. She had laid her eggs and even when we just tried to get a bit closer to look.... she made an awful racket and acted wounded. We quickly got back.

Hubby said that those eggs had better be hatched and they had better move prior to his time frame for backfilling... or else! I was not happy about that. Luckily.... Ummm... Don't tell him I said this..... It rained and we had set backs. :D

The family eventually high tailed it elsewhere. Cutest sight ever. :)

It's a lot of fun to watch that's for sure.

Did you know that those crazy Killdeer make nests in gravel on the side of roads? Traffic going by every single day! :willy_nilly:

Hopefully, the mama pushes them out of the nest away from the road. :eek

They have a most distinctive song. We had them hanging around the ponds I fished as a kid. When I hear one now I think back to those days.

nice pic

we had some around here when I first moved her but now that I think of it they have not been around lately

Keep your eyes open AA cuz they will probably be back.

It brings back a pile of childhood memories for me as well Fred. I spent many hours rafting the " oceans of the world " and that's what I think about when I hear them.

Are they the ones that drove me nuts at sunrise on the weekends? :willy_nilly::willy_nilly::thumbdown

Just like women... Birds are to be seen and not heard :D
