I saw a bug tonight and went to get it with a paper towel, not sure of what it was. It leaped and I saw it was a teeny tiny baby spider cricket. Thank goodness the pest guys are coming within a week. But when it jumped, Riley saw it and went to attack.

She rooted in the curtains where it jumped for a few seconds. She was determined to find it. I couldn't once it went behind the curtain. :(

My question is- will it hurt her to eat one? I thought the season was only when it got colder- we didn't have a problem this time last year. We stopped kenneling her while we're gone- she seems calmer that way. I'm concerned she might find one while we're gone and I won't be able to run interference.

All I can find via google is a broad answer on Yahoo! Answers to not let dogs eat any type of bug because you don't know if they have insecticide on them. Can someone give me a more specific answer?

I have no idea what a spider cricket is... not sure if we have them here, and if we do, we probably call them something else.

What I do know is that here it is fairly common for dogs to stay outside full time, where there are plenty of creepy crawlies around, and you seldom hear of them eating anything that actually made them ill. So it's a fair bet to say it probably wouldn't harm her if she ate just one or 2.
 
Yep, first dog. Well, on my own anyhow. I didn't know if there were any bugs poisonous to them. I know no chocolate and no onions.

Bug guys are either coming next week like the notice said, or today, because I saw them this morning.

What about the dead ones that will inevitably wind up in the middle of the kitchen floor?
 
Let me put it this way...

Dogs eat their own crap, dirty diapers, rotting fish, roadkill, bugs, snakes, maggot infested food, etc.
A few bugs won't hurt them

As a matter of fact, if you see a creepy crawly scurrying across your kitchen floor, call the dog over to take care of it. Everyone will be happy

Eating bugs is what dogs & cats do. Well, more like play w/em. I guess spider legs don't taste very good cuz I find those on the floor.

Like Zorak said, if the bug is still alive & kicking, it's safe to eat.

I don't like my furbabies eating flies, roaches or lizards. But that's me. They get miffed if I take em away.

You just have "new mommy jitters"!!.. :D

I am more concerned about your baby coming in contact with the poison the exterminator will leave all over your place, than a bug she might eat.. :eek
You really have to watch out that she does not lick any of that.. be careful, please..

I live in the middle of the woods, in an old cabin that has been winterized, but used to be our summer place, so there are little critters coming inside through some small cracks still around doors and windows..
My indoor cats and little dog are always on the lookout and lots of times manage to get to them before I do.. and like Moonie said, the only thing they don't like and leave for me, is the spider and cricket legs.. :p

I don't use any kind of poison inside or out of my house because of my pets, especially my birds, and also because I won't put wild animals in danger..
I also have well water, so poison is a no-no here...

I'm so used to spiders and other little bugs, that when I see them, I just pick them up with a tissue and put them outside...

The only ones I don't like and give me goose bumps are the stink bugs - or soldier bugs- that have been appearing in the last few years.. but I don't kill those either, because the smell they give off if you do, is worse than picking them up and putting them outside!!.. :yuk

LOL! They're called stink bugs for a reason, eh? I had one in my apartment once and I didn't know what it was. I just knew I had a massive bug flying around my living room curtains. :willy_nilly: I called my mom and she came and did a catch and release for me. :ninja I wanted to kill it but she said that would not be a good idea. Mom is wise. :nod:
 
Definitely new mommy jitters!

They don't really spray- just bait in the cabinets and then they pipe something along the undersides of the counters and cabinets. He sprays where the spider crickets come in, which is behind a stand alone pantry. And if I ask, he'll spray along the doors.

How long would I have to worry about the spray?

Like Thornless said, only he can answer that question... Exterminators use different things for each bug..

If you have a "licker" like mine is, I would be careful and not let him spray on the floor around the doors.. and make sure that any bait he leaves, is nowhere near a place she can reach..

Lilly is very smart and knows how to get on a chair, and from there onto the table and countertops.. I think that growing up with cats, has made her think she is one of them.. :ninja
I caught her trying to chew on an ant bait that was behind my kitchen sink once.. :(
