Fortunately, I'm relatively safe from harm where I am... here in the Valley, our soil type and relative lack of nearby faults prevent us from sustaining any type of serious damage. There was an article about it a few years back, I'll see if I can find it or something else that details that information better than I can remember. The closest fault to me is the Sierra Nevada fault, which was responsible for an earthquake in the late 1800s on the other side of the Sierra Nevada's from where I live, though it was felt strongly as far north as Sacramento.
A huge earthquake in the San Francisco bay area could have a tsunami effect on us, if a perfect series of events were to occur anyway.
Juz in case it happens, it would be my very first high magnitude /richter scale earthquake in California
I am wondering and am not sure if you're near Coalinga ( Fresno county). There was an earthquake in Coalinga in May 1983 with a 6.7 magnitude. It caused some damage to that town where they had to rebuild a 12 block section of the town. From Wikipedia, it says due to an unknown fault  So am hoping you wouldnt be affected by that IF just in case that activates
