Mucking About With HDR... ( big post )

Yeh, HDR can either look good or really bad cause its been waayyy over done...think uve managed to get something in between the two..but nice attempt! Did u use various photos or let the program do it itself from one photo?

Hi Sammy. Nice to see you again.

I used only one photo so they are not true HDR's. I didn't spend much time on any of the shots really. Probably two minutes each tops. Just killing time. It's also been a long time since I used the program and I forgot most of what I learned before. I intend to go out some weekend in the near future and shoot 3 shots each of various scenes and use the program the way it was intended. I know when I used the program before I soon tired of the HDR look and that's why I forgot I even had it.

That's OK Guyzerr. Don't worry about him and me. I mean...I've had my eye on him for a long time and I really thought he liked me too. Heck, I thought it was going to be forever. And then the revelation this morning that I'm not tall enough for him. It just shattered everything and...and... I don't know if I can recover from this.

Zirc it's not too late. Build yourself a pair of stilts if you really want him. Got nails & wood?

Over criticise, is that it? OK, as far I have said, basically the same thing as some posters have said on here, if you want to deem any criticism I make on yours or Guyzerr's photos, you can do either one of two things here, ignore what is said or discuss with the person as too why they said that, don't bicker and complain about the lack of the person's posting photos, it is my photos that I take and it is my decision too make. I don't here a load of people complain too me about the lack photo posting. If you, zirc and guyzerr don't like it, well that is tough isn't it?

Tuffy you have a lot to offer in a photography forum and you choose not to for whatever reason and truth be told I don't really give a shit why. When ever I said you take nice shots and suggested you post something all I ever hear is some crap about your internet connection or the site you're building. Well your site has been under construction since Al Gore started the internet and as far as your connection is concerned you seem to do just fine here. It's time you put up or shut up in my threads at least. I've told you before if I want a critique from you I'll ask for it. I do this for me not you believe it or not and unlike yourself I have no desire to become a pro. I do have the desire to get better but to date you haven't offered any real help so as far as I'm concerned you might as well keep your mouth shut.

As far as anyone else is concerned please feel free to say what you like. I'm taking my stand on Tuffy because of his knowledge of photography and his " unwilling to assist others " attitude. I truly dislike constant negative comments to posters from a supposed knowledgeable individual that refuses to show his own stuff.

Yes to both. But if you want a larger pic to use as a desktop tell me what size and I'll get it ready for you. That one is only 800 x 572.

I went into that thread because I thought I missed all your tips. I counted what I considered to be a " tip " and you have 8 there. Some of those are marginal as a tip but I gave you the benefet of the doubt. The last one was in December. As far as belittling you in that thread you're dreaming.

Quit being so damn defensive and start helping people. You have a lot to offer and imo that's what a good part of a photography section on a forum is all about.

im tempted to try HDR. Im not a big fan of it. like i said i like it subtle. but i am interested to see the effects of it combined with a metalic effect that i use often. i may DL it and try it out and post the results if i ever get round to it.

So, how does hdr work? I noticed on my iphone it makes stuff sharper.

But how can you turn a normal photo into hdr? Is it hdr simulated, or genuine hdr?

Zirc - Love the second horse image. It's subtle enough to work well.

Guy - Really like that second water shot. I have to disagree with Ian though in that I personally like to see some texture in the water and froth. When it's all smoothed out, it kinda loses interest for me personally. Some shots can look good that way but I prefer them mostly the way you've got right there

Give it a whirl pink. It's fun for a little while and then you'll be back to the usual. I'm going to play with a few more this evening cuz I have nothing better to do.

It's a program that uses a lot of contrast and color adjustments really. There's a pile of other stuff as well but I won't try and explain it because... well... um.. I don't have all the answers but this should help you understand.

Normally a person would use at least 3 shots but in the examples I posted I just used one as I said before so they are simulated. That's one benefit of the program I have because most don't work with just one. The end result of using the program properly with the right amount of shots is the way to go though.
