It took me a long time to get that in my head. I drink a soda called Zevia that use the Stevia plant. It's an all natural sweetener that doesn't effect your body the way the others do. It also helps keep your blood pressure down. The body doesn't absorb it say the way it does sucralose or maltitol. If I'm out at a restuarant I will have a regular soda. When I first got off aspartame, I drank Pepsi Throwback.

I do remember you had that thread before on Stevia, right? ;):thumbup

Never have never will. Diet drinks or margarine you will never see in my house.

I always cringe when I see a mum buy their kid diet coke thinking its "healthier":willy_nilly:

i didn't know about this until i read this thread to tell the truth

i change about a year ago to diets drinks or zero sugar because my son was putting some weight as he was having a lot of it

now i can not stand the ones with sugar even the one without sugar i find them too sweet as i cut down a lot like i said in my other post
but even from before i never was a big drinker to soft drinks i can put a glass and have it all day lasting me

am happy lately my son cut down a lot of the soft drinks too took me a while but i manage to make him cut a lot and choose most times to drink water rather then soft drink

i know some will say few calories that's ok but when from my husband side have problem with weight and almost everyone is way over weight i over do it a little :ninja

also for me cut a lot of the coffee too :willy_nilly:

Dont fall into the trick of buying those "smart waters" either, thinking they are healthy.

Some have even more sugar than Coke.:eek

I just wish more companies would sweeten their products with natural fruit juices and cane sugar. I'll take cane sugar over high fructose corn syrup as well

Oh, and my kids are completely happy with 100% fruit juice/diluted, water or milk. Actually they drink water quite a bit,

I don't really drink many fizzy drinks anyway. I'll only really have them when I'm in a restaurant and just not in the mood for alcohol or juices or if I'm drinking JD & Coke.

This is what I don't get... Is that people would rather drink a chemical poison sweetener over sugar. Seriously?

If want the occasional soft drink, pick up the one with sugar in it. A little sugar isn't going to make you fat but a little poison can kill you. :dunno

There will never be artificial sweeteners or products in our house.
Same here. I can't stand the taste of artificial sweeteners and they've proven to be a much bigger problem to the body than natural sugar. Really, that shit should be banned.

Disagree w/u again Freight....I don't know why I like u? ;)..... It's certainly no worse than alcohol. Should they ban that too? If you say it's okay if you drink it in moderation I say, same w/diet soda.

Freedom of choice, it's a wonderful thing. :thumbup

I seriously doubt that any gov't will ban it. I'm just stating my disdain for the stuff. Alcohol? There's alot of morons out there whom don't understand the term moderation. Many of these morons get behind the wheel of a 2 or 2.5 ton vehicle and destroy families. There's no way prohibition will ever make a comeback, but moderation doesn't seem to be commonplace in present society. Alcohol abuse has gotten out of control and gov't can't do much about it. People need to become more informed or just simply stop multiplying. Sometimes, you can't fix stupid.

I dunno, I think theres a difference between alcohol and soda. At least Alcohol has a warning label. soda with artificial sweeteners just say Contains Phenylalanine. Which is bad for chicks who are knocked up. It's obviously far worse for anybody than that.

But it is worse than alcohol
Aspartame disease: H.J. Roberts, MD, coined the term "aspartame disease" in a book filled with over 1,000 pages of information about the negative health consequences of ingesting aspartame. Dr. Roberts reports that by 1998, aspartame products were the cause of 80% of complaints to the FDA about food additives. Some of these symptoms include headache, dizziness, change in mood, vomiting or nausea, abdominal pain and cramps, change in vision, diarrhea, seizures/convulsions, memory loss, and fatigue. Along with these symptoms, links to aspartame are made for fibromyalgia symptoms, spasms, shooting pains, numbness in your legs, cramps, tinnitus, joint pain, unexplainable depression, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, blurred vision, multiple sclerosis, systemic lupus, and various cancers. While the FDA has assured us that the research does not show any adverse health complications from aspartame, there has been some evidence to suggest that some of the following symptoms can be related to aspartame.
Headaches: One study confirmed that individuals with self-reported headaches after the ingestion of aspartame were in deed susceptible to headaches due to aspartame. Three randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled studies with more than 200 adult migraine sufferers showed that headaches were more frequent and more severe in the aspartame-treated group.
Depression: In a study of the effect of aspartame on 40 patients with depression, the study was cut short due to the severity of reactions within the first 13 patients tested. The outcome showed that individuals with mood disorders were particularly sensitive to aspartame and recommended that it be avoided by them.
Cancer: In an initial study, 12 rats out of 320 developed malignant brain tumors after receiving aspartame in an FDA trial.

You can compare it to alcohol or anything else... Because you won't find me giving my kids alcohol either

Okay, if I see your kids on the street, Tim, I will refrain from offering them any diet pop or alcohol, I promise :)
