I'm terrified of snakes. I can't imagine living somewhere they just turn up and have a nosey around your house.

I have a swamp for a backyard. I have all sorts of critters that hang out. She's just hanging out.
I was terrified of them when I was little. When I was 11 or 12 I slipped down a ravine at summer camp and found myself surrounded by 100's of black snakes (harmless). I screamed loud enough for a camp counselor to hear me and he arrived just as I had a rock in my hand (like that was gonna do any good). He helped me out and made it his mission to teach me about snakes. Now I like em.:cool
I'm still working on spider-fear tho. :nod: I do catch and release, but I still get freaked.
I try to be brave for PBBB so as not to pass on my irrational fears of stuff. Or she'd never go in the backyard. We got gators out there too :cool
Alligators I can deal with. They have legs, you can close a door against them, they don't drop on you from above...
Snakes just freak me out. They have no legs but they're fast, they can climb trees, they have sharp teeth, some of them can smother you to death. And they look vindictive.

We have snakes here too. I've only seen a few and it was always unpleasant and startling. Particularly the snake that swam across the pond! :willy_nilly:
Usually it's just small garter snakes.
There was one hiding along the garage door when it was sunny and very hot out cooling itself. It looked like this:
THE PICTURE WAS WAY TOO HUGE!!!!!!!! I'll try to find another picture.
... only it was about 4" long.

Exactly. They're so sneaky, they evolved out of the need for them. Take the legs and arms off a human and you certainly don't get a fanged jungle terroriser :ninja

I haven't seen any wild snakes since moving here, they were EVERYWHERE where I used to live though.
It's a little garter snake. Not poisonous. Hard to tell all twisted up but she's only a couple of feet long - if that.
If I had been there I would have gotten it down from the eaves and played with it. :ninja
It was tempting but I didn't want to give PBBB ideas... I'd rather have her a bit reserved. Tho, she does know what a Coral snake is and not to touch it.
She also knows that if she sees a Cottonmouth to take three giant steps backwards and then turn around and run to the house cuz they are poisonous, crabby & mean & will give chase. I've not seen/heard a Rattler here tho they are in the County. She knows about them too.
Mostly we have the Black Racers (very cool snake), Garters & other garden snakes. Somewhere I have a picture of a baby Garter. It's only about 6 inches long. It was soooooo cute!
