McDonald's Makes Even Oatmeal Bad for You

Mark Bittman: It's jam-packed with sugar and 'weird ingredients'

(Newser) – This is remarkable even by McDonald's standards, writes foodie Mark Bittman in the New York Times: The chain has taken oatmeal—one of the world's most simple, inexpensive, and nutritious foods—and turned it into a pricey concoction with more sugar than a Snicker's bar and about the same number of calories as a cheeseburger. McDonald's calls it a "bowl of wholesomeness," but it's really just "expensive junk food."

So why bother putting oatmeal on the menu to begin with? Easy, writes Bittman. "McDonald’s wants to get people in the store. Once a day, once a week, once a month, the more the better, of course, but routinely. And if you buy oatmeal, they’re OK with that. But they know that, once inside, you’ll probably opt for a sausage biscuit anyway . And you won’t be much worse off."

not surprised but I hate to tell you you're moaning is really premature... Have you looked at the nutrition facts on the back of a Quaker Oats flavored Oatmeal? I think this dude just likes to moan. McDonalds isnt serving anything worse than what you would nuke in the microwave. Unless of course their nutrition facts are false.

thats for one pack. less then 1.5 ounce pack of oatmeal. Look at all the extra shit mcdonalds puts on it. the fruit has sugar in it. the mcdonalds oatmeal dish is 9 ounces total

the fruit by its self has 18 grams sugar and the oatmeal has 14 grams. but who knows how much oatmeal they are using. could be more then the 1.5 oz pack of Quakers

People are idiots if they dont relize fruit has sugar in it
