that actually doesn't make any sense whatsoever. I'm stating that it's close minded to impose your personal beliefs on other people. I fail to see why that's so difficult for you to understand.

I'm a very open minded person. I'm a christian, i believe in god... And yet i don't judge others, i don't tell them that they're wrong for their beliefs. I can disagree with them, but i don't impose my own beliefs or morality on them... Because it isn't my place.

oooooooooooooo quoting the bible..lol..should I be threatened now that you've taken out the big guns?...lol..:24:

Hey, it's the book that you profess to follow, not mine. I notice that you dont try to defend your statements in view of the beliefs you profess to follow.

I have seen it work for people who are completely honest and open with eachother, they hold back nothing and stay in communication with one another.

I see nothing wrong with it as long as both parties are consenting and being honest with themselves as well as their partner.

If no one is getting hurt, it is working.

First, you're confusing Retro with me... I'm the atheist around here.

And second, you have it backwards. Those who believe in God are the ones who are close minded. Because once you believe in god, a million other possibilities are now closed to your small mind. Whereas those of us who are not tied to a fairytale can believe in anyway we choose, complete and total freedom. :D

how come we can't believe in God AND have freedom to believe in whatever we want? ;) I do.

If your point is to prove that you're judgemental and hypocritically dont follow the beliefs you claim to follow, then yes, you have proved your point.

Why do all people who believe in God get labeled as being close minded by those who don't? I do apologize if the "Christians" you have met or talked to have come across that way. I promise you that not all of us are and that many of us are able to see both sides of a story and view it objectively without always bringing religion into it. I enjoy discussing my beliefs and sometimes have strong opinions regarding my beliefs, but I do my best not to push them on anyone.

Are you open minded to the possibility of a "fairytale" or are you too set in your beliefs as an Atheist to reject the possibility? :) Just a question :)

Has anyone here had or considered an open relationship?

I couldn't do it. I don't think it's a bad thing - if it works for people then good for them, but if I'm honest, I don't like to be anything but number one in an intimate relationship. It would bother me to think that someone else was providing something for my lover that I couldn't, or that they just wanted something different enough to go and actually get it.

So if your partner asked you to consider one, would you? And if you didn't want to do it, would you go long with it anyway just to avoid them breaking up with you?

I personally could never be in an open relationship, but to each is their own. I do know people who are currently in them and for now, it seems to be working for them. I also have freinds that were in them and through time, they grew apart. One of them grew to like someone else more than their partner and it led to separation. Another situation - one of them decided that they no longer wanted to be in an open relationship which led to arguments and problems. Their partner was happy with the way things were and did not want to give up the life style, eventually leading to divorce.

I agree with you HK...I personally would never be able to get over the fear and worry that someone else was able to provide something for my lover that I couldn't. I feel that it would only lead to problems down the road. It would eventually eat me up inside! I know the problems and pain that it can create in a relationship first hand.

nope, not my point....but keep thinking, who knows, one day, something may actually sink in:D

Well if that isn't your point then you have spectacularly failed. Still shying away from justifying why your feelings on this arn't un- Christian, I see.

Because the two don't go together. If you believe in God, then there isn't any question as to how the universe was created. There is no questioning where people came from or any of the animals on the earth. There are many things that are without question if you believe in God.

First, the entire point of an atheist is to NOT have any beliefs. You shouldn't be asking the question, "Are you open to the possibility" because I am open to all possibilities. The correct question should be asking me how likely I would be to believe in something with no physical proof.
Are unicorns real? I would say no, that they were a mere figment of some writers imagination many years ago.
Are fire breathing dragons real? Again, I would say not for the same reason.
Is god real? If I don't believe in unicorns or fire breathing dragons, why would I believe in god? And while we are on the topic, which god? I could list out over 100 gods, which one should I believe in and why should I?

I'm not sure I totally agree with this statement Tim. The reason I say this, is that while belief can be constricting it is still how the person gives themself over to the belief that generates a more close minded view of the world. I spent alot of my time, even though I was sure I believed in the Christian "God" questioning the accepted wisdom... which as it turns out was more of me asking myself, "are you really sure you believe this way?" As I have come to answer certain questions for myself through both science and philosophy I tend to look at the world in a more, inquisitive way. I find that there is always the question, it's the personal stance to shut down the input from the outside, not the belief itself that removes the questioning, that removes the possibility.

What ?!?!? Unicorns and fire breathing dragons aren't real ?!?!? You don't have any idea how badly you just ruined my day! :D J/K This isn't the thread for debating religion and I apologize for even posing my original question here. However, if you'd like to discuss this topic some other time, I'd be more than happy to. If not for anything else, to at least show you that not all Christians are as close minded as you give us credit for. :)

Then I must be a broken anomaly. Because I am, and have been for a long time, capable of believing in evolution and creationism. The two can go hand in hand.

Now who's being closed-minded..? ;) :D :jk

What doesn't mix, in my opinion, is not a belief in God and the ability to be open-minded, but the following of organised religion and the ability to be open-minded.

I know more than enough people who believe in a god of some kind, but are still open to the possibilities that science holds. The place where things start to go wrong appears to be when churches and organised religion are involved. It is almost always a church that dictates what you must believe, how you must believe and how you practice that belief. It almost always seems to be restrictive and discriminatory if not outright prejudiced.

Personal belief is something I think is exactly that, personal to each person. We don't need religion to dictate to us what we can believe in. If we're not harming anyone else, we should be able to believe that we want :)

Bit of a side note but if a mod reads this, any chance they can split up the religious posts here into a new thread? As much as I love the tokenz, this really belongs elsewhere :p

You have an opinion and I have a different one, that's the way it is.....how difficult is this to understand?..lol.
I'll continue to express my opinions and speak my mind as I see fit and if throwing christianity in my face is the only come back you can muster...lol...then fill your boots Peter, you're good for a giggle, I'll give you that much..lol

You can carry on banging on in this sad, repetitive manner all you want. The fact is you are still avoiding answering your unchristian behaviour while professing to be a Christian. Everyone can see through your hypocricy more and more, each time you avoid answering. Carry on.

My couple of early relationships didn't work but we weren't in open relationship. I do not like a relationship without a commitment.
